• Who has prior technology planning experience? – You are now members of our technology planning

expert group!

• Divide into three teams with at least one member from the technology planning expert group.

• Using TIP topics and/or information in the basket, determine if the information is a –a Fact or a Myth

• TIP stands for Technology Integration Plan• TIPs are housed on the Interactive Illinois Report

Card (iirc) website – http://iirc.niu.edu– The same user name and password that is used for the DIP is

used for the TIP.– It is recommended that you create some portions of the TIP in a

word document and cut and paste to the online TIP.– TIPs can only be submitted for approval via the iirc. Paper copies

will not be accepted.– TIPs are created, submitted, and approved for a three years.

TIP Facts and TimelinesTimelines:• Late February/Early March 2010 - TIP plan due date. Date has not

been announced. • Sample timeline from 2009

• February 27, 2009 – TIP plans submitted for peer review via iirc.• March 10 – 19, 2009 – Round one peer review• March 24, 2009 – ISBE action/peer review results are posted on iirc

(45-day window for making changes begins)• May 7, 2009 – Round two peer review begins • May 7 – 15, 2009 – Round two peer review• May 19, 2009 – ISBE action/peer review results are posted on iirc• June 26, 2009 – TIP 2009 approval window closes – last day for TIP to

be approved

Peer Review – What is it?• Peer Review teams consist of 3

educators from our local area trained on TIP criteria AND an outside facilitator.

• The Peer Review team reviews each section of the TIP, determines if the section meets the minimum criteria and passes or does not pass each section.

• If any section of the TIP does not pass, the TIP overview does not pass and has an opportunity for revisions.

• ISBE is the Certified Technology Plan Approver for all public K-12 districts in Illinois.

Vision– Vision can be a district vision or separate

technology vision– Statement or clarity of how the vision

supports telecommunication, instructional technology and information technology if not addressed in the vision statement(can be a bulleted list)

– Any language that indicates the district is planning into the future beyond the three year plan

Section I – Data Analysis– Part A: Illinois School Report Card data– Part B: Local Assessment data – optional– Part C: Other Data

• Item #1 – Attributes and Challenges– Addresses current student instructional technology use– Address community demographics

• Item #2 – Educator Qualifications and Professional Growth and Development – Addresses current professional development related to the use of

technology

Section I – Data Analysis continued– Part C: Other Data continued

• Item #3 – Parental/Community Involvement Data– Addresses parental/community involvement– Address parental/community communication

– Part D: Technology Deployment Data• On-line survey must be completed. Sections include:

– District Information – number of classrooms, teachers, etc.– Internet Access at various locations– Computer Inventory by type and location– Operating Systems– Network Equipment– Type of Licensed Software (Yes/No response)– Inventory of Other Technologies– Telecommunications– Distance Learning equipment

Section I – Data Analysis continued– Part E: SMART Goal(s)

The SMART goal can be the DIP goal, SIP goal, and/or based on conclusions from the Report Card and local assessment data. The SMART goal has an achievement focus. The strategies and activities of the Action Plan have a technology focus. The goal(s) should cover the three years of the TIP.

Section II – Action PlanOverall review of the Action Plan

• Strategies and activities have a technology focus and cover all three years of the plan. Strategies– are general/broad statements that set a course of action– are supported by conclusions drawn by data analysis– will have a technology focus

• Activities have a timeline for all three years of the plan. Activities– include specific step-by-step process to achieve the strategy– include a budget – Include a start and end date

• A budget is included for all three years

Section II – Action Plan continued• Part A: SMART Goal – same goal as Section I, Part E• Part B: Curriculum Integration

– Strategy(ies) and activities for each phase (3 years) that address the integration of technology into curriculum and instruction.

– Strategy(ies) and activities for each phase (3 years) that address an increase in student accessibility.

• Part C: Professional Development– Strategy(ies) and activities for each phase (3 years) that address professional

development focused on the integration of technology into the curriculum and instruction.

Section II – Action Plan continued• Part D: Parent/Community Involvement

– Strategy(ies) and activities for each phase (3 years) that address the promotion of parental and community involvement.

– Strategy(ies) and activities for each phase (3 years) that address an increase in communications with parents, including a description of how parents will be informed of the technology use.

• Part E: Technology Deployment– Strategy(ies) and activities for each phase (3 years) that address the

acquisition, utilization, and/or reliable access of technology and telecommunication.

– NOTE: Make sure activities includes services requested in the E-rate application!

Section II – Action Plan continued• Part F: Monitoring

– For each section of the action plan (i.e. C&I, professional development, Parent/Community, and technology deployment) the following are identified:• Monitoring tool(s)• Progress indicator(s)• Evaluation frequency• Name of person responsible.
