Troops choose a country that is a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (http://www.wagggs.org/en/world ). Learn about the girls in that country and some of their cultural traditions. Troops then set up a table at the Franklin World Thinking Day celebration to showcase their country and teach something to the rest of the participants, i.e. game, song, craft, food, etc. Plan supplies for approx 200 girls. Girls in each troop take turns working their "station" while traveling the world through the other troop's "stations". Each country can only be represented once, please send your request to [email protected] . You will then receive verification with your country selection. Daisies: come to travel the world if you think sponsoring a country will be too much, sponsor a country if you wish!! If you want to learn more about World Thinking Day, check out http://www.worldthinkingday.org/en/home . Please send any queries to [email protected] . Patches will be available at a cost of $2 per patch. Please pre-pay for your patches by sending a check payable to “Roni Doherty” attention: Roni Doherty, 86 Oxford Drive, Franklin, MA 02038. All girls attending the event, whether their troop presents a country or not, are eligible for participation patch. Patches should be purchased two weeks prior to the event, with a check. We will deliver your patches to you at the event. We cannot guarantee the availability of patches for purchase at or subsequent to the event. Troops should bring a small snack for their girls (water will be provided), stamp and stamp pad to stamp the girls’ passports when they visit your country, and enough adult supervision so that there is always one adult at your table and adult supervision with the girls as they travel. The day begins with an opening ceremony and ends with a closing ceremony. Please remind your girls and their parents that they should plan to be in attendance for both. Look at your try-it book or badge book to try to wrap a badge/try-it around your preparation of your country. Some suggestions are: Brownies: Around the World, People of the World, Brownies Around the World, Citizens Near and Far. Juniors: Celebrating People, Girl Scouting Around the World, World Neighbors. Please respond to [email protected] and give your attendance estimate two weeks prior to the event.
