Mise-En-Scene: Lighting

These pictures show the lighting within the scene being varied. The picture Sarah, who is lying in bed is green to show the grimy-ness of what’s going on; that being her waking up after the car crash which killed her daughter. This is also shown within the picture of her running towards the main part of the hospital where Beth confronts her. Also, the picture of Jess and her birthday cake shows the building up of her birthday wish which is not to die within the accident.

Location

The picture of Jess blowing the candles on the Birthday Cake is a shadow of what’s to come in a short while within the film. That is within nowhere. And the Heart Rate monitor confirms that this was un-surprisingly filmed within a hospital; Sarah’s room in fact before her run down the corridor.

Costume

The costumes within the scene reflect the situation of the film at the current point.

As Sarah is in hospital, she has to wear the bog standard patient’s gown whiles Jessica (Not pictured) is wearing normal clothing that anyone would. This would also suggest how different the situations are; Sarah’s recovery and Jess’s Birthday, which is not real.

Props

The props within this scene are of a varied nature and all play a part of creating a good section for the film. The Birthday Cake for Jess is to show that her big day, regrettably isn’t happening. The hospital equipment is in use for Sarah and when it comes to her run through the corridor, the camera is mounted on a track to ensure the filming is effective.

The general feel within the Mise-En-Scene shows the hard hitting impact of what has/just about to occur/occurred.

Sound

There is no external narration within the scene, and throughout the film. There is backing music which is played within certain points to create the affect needed for that part of the film and of course what the characters are saying. Therefore, as a result the sound is in a Non Diegetic form.

Why the Elements were used

The Elements of Sound & Mise-En-Scene are used within the movie are used to again hit home the seriousness of the plot which is being portrayed in the film. The fact of the intense music used in most parts of the film, the lighting being very dingy, the location's having a darkened feel and the props and costume being familiar to the setting of a particular scene all make my claim correct. All these things in my opinon make the film the success it turned out to be.
