What is SIM?

• An instructional materials meant to reteach concepts and skills• Materials given to learners to help them master

a competency-based skill which they were not able to develop during the regular classroom teaching (with minimal intervention or guide of teacher)

Is SIM just another name for Module? If not, what's the

difference?

SIM vs MODULE

• Focuses on the skills not mastered by the students during the regular class• Intended for remedial

teaching/class• No pretest and posttest • Includes fun activities

• May contain different topics included in a chapter• Intended for regular

classroom teaching• With pretest and posttest • Includes fun activities

What are the basic parts of a SIM?

Five Basic Parts of a SIM

• 1. Guide Card• 2. Activity Card• 3. Assessment Card• 4. Enrichment Card• 5. Reference Card

Guide Card

• This part will stand as the sneak preview of the sets of activities found inside the SIM.• A teaser that will increase the students

interest towards the material.• With this is the brief explanation and

preview of the topics included in the SIM.

“The Power of Mind” by

Mary Ann C. Angeles

JFK SPED Center

Activity Card • Defines the task(s) that the learner should

undertake in order to develop a skill• The task is competency-oriented and may

be an individual or group work.• The purpose of the task(s) is to provide

enough practice for the learner so that he can perform the skill automatically.

“Dependent and Independent Variable” by

Marian M. ProntonLipay High School

Pointers to consider in formulating Activity Cards

•Begin where the learners are.•Adopt the activity to the learners’ style.

Key Points

• Ensure alignment of activities with the tasks/objectives of the SIM

• Keep activities short and simple• Provide a variety of activities to cater to the diverse

learning styles• Provide a number of activities so that learner can have

enough practice in developing their skill.

To test whether our Activities are effective in teaching the

concept, the Assessment Card is equally important.

Assessment Card

• Help the learner measure his/her level of mastery pf the skill upon completion of the task(s).• The result of the assessment identifies the

knowledge/skills that the learner may need to enhance or develop further.

“Coordinating Conjucntions” byLaarni N. AchivarLipay High School

A ten item test parallel to the series of activities found in the

SIM.

Reference Card

• Provides additional content to the coverage in the textbook• List the resources that the learner may refer to for further reading.

“Solving Quadratic Equation by Factoring” byBrian M. Mary

Lipay High School

Enrichment Card

• This extends learning by providing additional exercises for further application of knowledge and skills •May also contains additional information to extend students’ knowledge

“Work” byElaine L. Balaquit

Other Parts• TITLE CARD/COVER PAGE• INTRODUCTION CARD

• Statements that may relate the topics to something very familiar with the students. Also include the scope of the SIM.

• OBJECTIVE CARD• This is where the objectives of the SIM are given. Builds on prior learning of

the students.

• ANSWER CARD • This is the part wherein the correct answers in the Activity Cards, Assessment

Cards, and Enrichment Cards are located.

What will be the topic?

• LEAST MASTERED SKILLS

Take Note!

• Simplicity• Easy to Understand• Easy to Reproduce• Consider your SIM is intended for individualized

instruction with minimal or no supervision of a teacher at all.

• Make it interactive, as if you were taking to your students using your SIM.
