Guide to use Mac to recover hidden folders (A) Enable Mac OS X Lion to view hidden files and folders 1. Using Spotlight, search and select Terminal app.

2. Type the following command into terminal and Enter, to enable Mac to view hidden files and folders:

defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles YES

3. Restart the Finder by (1) Clicking on Apple icon follows by “Force Quit…” (2) Selecting Finder follows by clicking “Relaunch”

4. Access the flash disk with folders being hidden due to virus inflection to confirm that the folders are now visible.

(B) Make the hidden folders visible 5. In terminal, type “cd ” – take note of the space after cd. Click on the flash disk, hold and drag it to terminal. This will auto add the path to the flash disk. Finally, just Enter to execute the command.

6. Type the following command follows by Enter, to change all folders to visible:

chflags nohidden *

7. Confirm in Finder that the earlier hidden folders are now visible. But take note of system folder such as RECYCLER is now visible.

8. Use the following command follows by Enter, to change the above system folder back to hidden:

chflags hidden RECYCLER

* Repeat the above command for other system folders. 9. Confirm that the system folder is now hidden.

(C) Disable Mac from viewing hidden files and folders 10. Type the following command follows by Enter, to disable Mac from viewing hidden files and folders:

defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles NO

11. Restart the Finder by (1) Clicking on Apple icon follows by “Force Quit…” (2) Selecting Finder follows by clicking “Relaunch”
