Why are Social Media statistics important to keep on top of?

1. To tells us where people are online.

As an advertising agency we want to know

where people are, so that we can engage

people in the most effective way.

2. To shows us the current trends in social media.

• What are the popular sites?

• Which are the fastest growing sites?

• Which sites are losing users, the fastest?

We can also discover how users interact with

the platform; is it just a quick check to see

what’s happening while they are out and

about or do they login for 20 minutes.

3. To predict where the next big thing will come from.

With this knowledge we can gain useful

insights and offer our clients the most up to

date and innovative solutions.

What are the most popular Social Media platforms in our region this month?

• In both countries, Facebook users grew; by 30, 000 in Australia and 10,000 in New Zealand.

• LinkedIn saw slight increase in Australia, also increasing by almost 30,000 users.

• It should be no surprise to most people that Reddit, Bebo and StumbleUpon are losing users. These sites have slowly, but steadily been losing users over the last few months.

• Additionally FlickR users have decreased as Pinterest and Instragram have become the major visual players in social media.

• Interestingly, in Australia MySpace also had a slight decrease. Perhaps the users that stuck around all those years don’t like the new interface and new users are taking their time to join.

• From all accounts we can understand that Twitter is remaining steady for both countries, seeing as Twitter hasn’t reported on their user statistics for sometime.

What is this month’s Big News?

This month we experienced a turning point in social media history. Facebook reached 1 billion users worldwide on the 4th of October.  On that day, Mark Zuckerburg updated Facebook saying

"This morning, there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month. If you're reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you.

Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.

I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too."

To put that into perspective, that means that if Facebook gains another 308, 000 users, and judging by its growth so far it probably will, it will have a larger population than any country in the world.
