DESCRIPTION

The foundation of a successful social media strategy is having something to say and more importantly having people respond, connect, and interact with your content. One of the most common comments I have heard from clients is I don’t know what to say / post. In this presentation you will learn a tips from a fellow business owner / social media enthusiast on how to:• Find great content to establish yourself as a leader / expert in your field of expertise.• Bringing that content to one location for review using an igoogle page and rss feeds.• Capitalizing on advanced twitter searches to search for relevant content, potential networking connections, clients and more.• Create a library for your content posts for bulk uploading / scheduling to make your social media strategy manageable.

Searching for Content

Using search engines – Google, Yahoo, Bing etc.

Find blogs, articles, videos etc. that you feel your audience will respond to.Ask yourself :

•Is this content interesting, news worthy or relevant?•Does this content demonstrate you as a leader in your field?•Is this content from a trust worthy source? •Is this content accurate and truthful?

Searching for Content

Once you find a great blog or article, how do you save it to refer back to it or check on the site for new posts?

Most currently use bookmarks or just simply search the internet again for the blog.

This becomes time consuming and frustrating going all over The internet for each site.

How about using the technology to bring the content to you?

Simplifying Your Search Results

RSS: Really Simple Syndication a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated

works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format.

Most blogs and websites can be followed using their RSS feed URL.

Anytime the blog is updated with a new post, the post is pushed to you.

You will not need to check that site

everyday

Finding the Feeds “URL”

Most internet browsers will have a built in feed finder. You will see an orange icon in your browser if a feed is available on a site.

Converting to a Post

Copy and paste the “url” into your social media manager

I use Hootsuite to post to my twitter, facebook and linkedin accounts.

Shorten the “url” and then complete your “post” or “tweet”

send or schedule

Creating Your Own Library of PostsOnce you post is complete, Copy the post and save future content.

TIP: If you don’t have time to copy the posts when you first are posting them, you can always review your “sent tweets” stream.

Creating Your Own Library of Posts

Reasons for Cataloging your posts –

1.To build up a list of posts to re post at a future date

2.Makes coming up with “what to post” a lot easier

3.Having a place to save your posts, when you think of them…if you are not ready to post yet

Simple Solution : ExcelI use an excel spreadsheet for saving my posts.

You can use the tabs for different topics you wish to post about.

This makes it easy to copy and past posts into your twitter manager very easy.

Bonus I have created a “character count” to keep your posts with in the 140 twitter limit (or your own Retweet limit)

Page 20: Social Media: Content Matters

Calculate the characters available if you wish to be retweeted (RT)!!

For me my character count needs to be at 124 in order someone to

be able to RT me with out editing.

Always make it easy for people to

Pass on your content. You can then save these posts and build a library of content to use. Use Excel tabs to separate topics.

Advanced Twitter Search

Twitter removed the rss feed link that was once a part of there advanced twitter search screen.

You can get rss feeds for non-location based twitter searches by using

www.topsy.com

Location based search in more complex using Geocodes etc. –

Email me and I will send you a link to the directions on how to

accomplish this and then add it to your igoogle dash board.
