Congratulations to the 6th grade teachers!Through the data we can see that through the last 5 years there has been consistency on more than 50% of the students earning a 3 or above in reading. This achievement is strong as these students enter into middle school. We need to development a consistency of this trend going through 7th and 8th grade.

What is RTI?

Response to Intervention, or RTI, is the practice of providing high quality instruction and interventions matched to student need, monitoring progress frequently to make changes in instruction or goals, and applying child response data to important educational decisions.

How does RTI work?

The overall RTI approach is intended to insure effective instruction and other educational services for all children.Systematically teach all children with effective instruction provided by qualified personnel.Emphasizes prevention and early intervention.Uses a multi-tiered model to offer a continuum of services, thereby introducing more supports and strategies in general education.Ensures that important education decisions are based on data. The essential elements of an RTI approach are:The provision of scientific, research-based instruction and interventions in general education.Monitoring and measurement of student progress in response to the instruction and interventions.Use of these measures of student progress to shape instruction and make educational decisions.

School Improvement Plan

Goal #1: Through the RtI process, reading remediation of the lowest quartile students will improve through the identification of individual student deficiencies. In our middle school, all classroom teachers are responsible for an RtI group that is focusing on an area of student deficiencies. These groups are fluid and based on data. Students go to RtI with the designated teacher four days a week to receive remediation in the target skill. The homeroom teacher progress monitors and regularly communicates progress to the other teachers. In addition to RtI, the CIS (Comprehension Instruction Sequence) Model is being implemented in all middle school classrooms. Training for teachers is being provided through our PLCs by the district reading coaches. Observations will be done by reading coaches and administration.
