SANTIAGO DE CALI AND THE FIRST INHABITANTS

Once upon a time, several centuries ago, even before

the spanish arrived to America, there were some communities that lived in

HOW THEY HAD FUN

They had different ways to have fun, instead of going to the movies,

watching tv or connecting to internet, they used to go fishing,

or collecting seeds and threads to make necklaces. Although these

people lived in the mountains and away from a river to fish, they did it in some lakes and the BIG RIVER

(Cauca´s river)BACK

HOW THEY TALKED WITH PEOPLE FAR AWAY

To communicate with other villages they sent

a guy with the information, and he had

to go by walking.

HOW THEY TRAVELED TO DISTANT PLACES

They never travel as far as today, just short

distances and they did it by walking.

Remember the horses and cows were brought

by the Spanish.

Also they have a different way to communicate, a different language, and

have a different diet, they ate different things

(Do you know who were the CALIMAS?

THE CALIMASThe native´s groups that lived in these

places belong to a biggest family: the CALIMAS. We have a lake that

receives that name, and some of us could think that it was because they lived around that lake or at least nearby. But the CALIMAS lived all around the VALLE DEL CAUCA, there were many small

communities that belong to that family. And even every community has its own boss, rules, people and

territory, they have some characteristics in common.

Also their life was different from ours because of the

way they built towns. (Some of you know what did this

people do to build them? What did they do when they got sick?

What did they wear?) NEXT

HOW THEY BUILT THEIR TOWNS

Those communities were composed by small villages with

15 to 20 persons. They were mainly located in the sides of

the mountain and in the river´s courses. The villages were built

with houses from 10 to 10, some places more and some

other less. They were big, rounded, covered with straw, and there were many small rivers with potable water. BACK

WHAT THEY DID WHEN THEY GOT SICK

And when they got sick, they never went to a

see a doctor, they went to the Chaman or

Mama, (the magician of the tribe) they took a

shower with plants and in some times they

prepared drinks.BACK

THERE IS A LAST AND SHORT STORY

The most numerous communities of the west part of the valley had a main chief named PETE or

PETECUY. He lived in a high land and had a house with more than 400 skin´s villagers as walls papers. There were other houses with that kind of trophies

but in a lower number; they were neighbor enemies and had a biggest merit the one who had killed more people. The women participated in this fights and if they were defeated, their meat would

be the dinner.
