Unit 30 – UK Media Publishing - Proposal Name: Andy Patterson Candidate Number: 4113 Centre Number: 64315 Format: Magazine I am going to create a new music magazine which focuses on pop and rock music. This will be demonstrated as a Front Cover and DPS (Double Page Spread) for Music 4 the Mind. I chose pop and rock music because I think that they are currently mainstream in contemporary music, therefore I feel that it should make it appealing to both men and women. Some big sellers in the music industry such as Ed Sheeran or Taylor Swift are some of the most famous musicians of all time and have made some songs that appeal to their fans. Pop and rock music changed over the years, and attracted millions of fans over many generations. This is what made me choose these genres to my music magazine so I can expand on it and let more people from different age groups to read about it as well. Working Title At the moment, my production title is called ‘Music 4 the Mind’ but that may or may not change. This is made to demonstrate that it is teenagers and young adults from the informality of the language. The font of the masthead is in black and the impact font, whilst the background will be blue and the rest of the text on the front cover white or black. This is to demonstrate that Music 4 the Mind is a rival to Q Magazine. Blue is also a cooler colour that can appeal to men and women, hence the gradient. The masthead will feature the magazine logo and strapline inside a white box and in the Impact font. This is to rival Q’s masthead which is the logo and masthead in Times New Roman in a red square. I am trying to make it appealing to a younger audience by its design as Q is for an older audience. Genre: The magazine has two sub-genres which are pop and rock music, as my magazine is based on Q Magazine, which features the same style. MUSIC 4 THE MIND

I am going to create a new music magazine which focuses on pop and rock music. This is what made me choose these genres to my music magazine so I can expand on it and let more people from different age groups to read about it as well.Working Title

At the moment, my production title is called ‘Music 4 the Mind’ but that may or may not change. I am trying to make it appealing to a younger audience by its design as Q is for an older audience.Genre:The magazine has two sub-genres which are pop and rock music, as my magazine is based on Q Magazine, which features the same style.Content:

‘Music 4 the Mind’ will feature interviews from artists, as well as album reviews, backstage events at concerts, and images of artists. This will be seen as part of Katz’ Uses and gratifications theory, where the reader is escaping reality to see their favourite artist. The front cover will also consist of an artist on the front cover in black and white or in colour which applies to Q magazine, which is known for its front cover designs, whereas I want to make it simple to a younger audience.

Style or Approach:

The denotation of the colour scheme for the magazine front cover will be black, white and blueThe colour scheme was chosen for name of convention because of a survey taken on

SurveyMonkey to determine which colour scheme was popular and that emerged as a popular choice. The colour scheme connotes that the magazine is based on Q magazine which has a red, black and white colour scheme. The size of the magazine will also be 28cm tall and 21.5cm which will be roughly the size of Q.

I am going to use Photoshop to construct the magazine pages (Front Cover and DPS) because it is most used when creating magazine coversSome of the tools in Photoshop that will be particularly beneficial in constructing front cover will be text, rulers, magnetic lasso, and paint bucket.

Music 4 the Mind is going to be a competitor with Q to become the next market leader as a majority of the content will be similar to what Q has.Audience:

Age – 15-24 Gender – Male/Female Socio-Economic Needs – Katz Ethnicity – International Stereotypes – Men only

The audience is mostly male and female because the adverts in my magazine are aimed at both male and female.Length:

I intend to make 32 pages including the front and back cover. It will be A4 in size. Frequency:

Monthly

Why? Q Magazine is also monthly and I thought I’d follow suite.

Cost? £1.99 because on SurveyMonkey, that cost achieved the most votes.
