Percentage %In mathematics a percentage is a number or ratio expressed as a fraction of 100. It is often denoted using the percent sign,"%" or the abbreviation pct.

Conversion of percentage into fraction:-To convert a Percent to a Fraction follow these steps:

•Step 1: Write down the percent divided by 100.

•Step 2: If the percent is not a whole number, then multiply both top and bottom by 10 for every number after the decimal point. [For example, if there is one number after the decimal, then use 10, if there are two then use 100, etc.]

•Step 3: simplify [or reduce the fraction.

Example:-

Example: Express 11% as a fraction

Step 1: Write down: 11-----100 Step 2: The percent is a whole number, go straight to step 3.

Step 3: The fraction cannot be simplified further.

Answer = 11/100

Example:-:

Step 1: Write down

75

------

100

Step 2: The percent is a whole number, go straight to step 3.

Step 3: Simplify the fraction:

75 = 15 = 3

----- ----- -----

100 20 4

Answer = 3/4

Conversion of fraction to percentage:-

Step 1: Find a number you can multiply the bottom of the fraction by to get 100.

Step 2: Multiply both top and bottom of the fraction by that number.

Step 3. Then write down just the top number with the "%" sign.

Follow the steps:

Example:-

For example, in order to get a decimal fraction, 3/4 is expanded to 75/100 by multiplying the numerator by 25 and denominator by 25:

3 = 3×25 = 75 × 100% = 75%

--- --------

4 = 4×25 100

Other method is to do long division of 3 divided by 4.

Conversion of percentage into decimal:-

In order to convert percent to decimal number, the percentage should be divided by 100.

Example:-1% = 1/100 0.01

5% = 5/100 = 0.05

10% = 10/100 = 0.1

35% = 35/100 = 0.35

50% = 50/100 = 0.5

100% = 100/100 = 1

230% = 230/100 = 2.3

Conversion of decimal to percentage :-

1 = 100%

The value V% in percent (%) is equal to the decimal value Vd times 100%:

V %= × 100%

Examples

0.01 = 0.01 × 100% = 1%

0.05 = 0.05 × 100% = 5%

0.3   = 0.3 × 100% = 30%

0.35 = 0.35 × 100% = 35%

3.5   = 3.5 × 100% = 350%

Conversion of natural and whole numbers into percentage :-1.Percent is an abbreviation of per centum, which means per hundred. Three apples out of 100 apples equal 3% of the apples.

2.A whole number is any positive number that does not include a decimal or fraction. Examples of whole numbers are 3, 5, 8, 23 and 42. Fractions and decimals, for example 6 ½ or 7.25, are not whole numbers. Negative numbers are integers, but not whole numbers.

3.To convert a number into percent multiple it by 100 and then add the percent sign.

Example:-

1)23 x 100 = 2300%

2) 78 x 100 = 7800%

3) 158 x 100 = 15800%

Conversion of percentage into numbers:-Step 1: Write down the percent divided by 100. Step 2: If the percent is not a whole number, then multiply both top and bottom by 10 for every number after the decimal point. (For example, if there is one number after the decimal, then use 10, if there are two then use 100, etc.) Step 3: Simplify (or reduce) the fraction

Example:-

For example if a student scores 50 out of 100 in mathematics the percentage of his marks can be calculated by dividing 50 by 100 which comes to be 0.5 and then multiplying it by 100 will gives the percentage of his marks in math which is 50%.
