Typical design...

Specify  outcomes  “what  can  a  successful  student  know  or  do?”

Course  content,  design,  ac<vi<es,  and  assessments  prepare  students  to  achieve  outcomes

Students  are  assessed  and  “credited”  based  on  their  success  in  achieving  the  goals.  Other  possible  outcomes  ignored

Page 26: MOOC monster for EDU338x

An alternate design plan?...

Specify  a  range  of  possible  outcomes,  offer  paths  to  achieve  outcomes  based  on  students’  goals

Course  content,  design,  ac<vi<es,  and  assessments  provide  paths  to  various  goals.  Reflec<on  on  one’s  path  cri<cal  to  success.

Students  are  assessed  based  on  their  success  reaching  the  des<na<on  of  their  chosen  path.
