Monster Baby Beanie Personalize these textured beanies for your very own little monster! Includes sizes for newborn, 3-6 months, and 6-12 months with instructions for eyes, horns, and teeth.

Notes: 

All rounds are worked continuously in the round. Do not join unless otherwise noted. Do not turn. 

Use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round. 

Newborn size skips from round 5 to 7, omitting round 6. 

Crown: 

MC, ch 1 (not a stitch) 

Round 1: hdc x10 into magic circle. Pull tight. (10) 

Round 2: Working in the 3rd loops of the previous round, 2hdc into each of the 10 stitches around. (20) 

Round 3: Working in the 3rd loops of the previous round, repeat *hdc, 2hdc* x10. (30) 

Round 4: Working in the 3rd loops of the previous round, repeat *hdc, hdc, 2hdc* x10. (40) 

Round 5: Working in the 3rd loops of the previous round, repeat *hdc, hdc, hdc, 2hdc* x10. (50) 

*Stop here & skip to the Body section for newborn size.* 

Round 6: (3-6 month only) Working in the 3rd loops of the previous round, Repeat *hdc x9, 2hdc* x50. (55) 

*Stop here & skip to the Body section for 3-6 month size.* 

Round 6: (6-12 month only) Working in the 3rd loops of the previous round, repeat *hdc, hdc, hdc, hdc, 2hdc* x10. (60) 

Body: 

Each round of this section will have the following stitch counts: 

Newborn - 50 

3-6 month - 55 

6-12 month - 60 

Round 7: No longer working in the back loops, hdc in each stitch around.  

Round 8: Repeat *hdc x4, puff* around.  

Round 9: Hdc in next 5 stitches. Repeat *hdc, puff, hdc x3* around.  

Round 10: Repeat *hdc x3, puff, hdc*.  

Round 11-14: Sc in each stitch around.  

Round 15: Spike stitch into each stitch of the first round of sc stitches (round 11).  

Round 16-17: Hdc in each stitch around.

Round 19: Repeat Round 8. 

Round 20: Repeat Round 9. 

*Stop here and skip to Brim section for newborn & 3-6 month sizes.* 

Round 20: Repeat Round 10. 

 

3-6 Month Size 

Round 21: Hdc in each stitch around.  

Round 22-24: Working in the 3rd loops of the previous round, hdc in each stitch around.  

Round 25: Working in the 3rd loops of the previous round, sc in each stitch around. Slip Stitch to join and finish off.  

 

6-12 Month Size 

Round 21: Hdc in each stitch around.  

Round 22-26: Working in the 3rd loops of the previous round, hdc in each stitch around.  

Round 27: Working in the 3rd loops of the previous round, sc in each stitch around. Slip Stitch to join and finish off.  

 

 

Sew in ends and add horns, eyes, or teeth as desired.  

Brim: 

Follow the directions for the appropriate size, continuing the stitch counts established in the Body section. 

(Newborn - 50, 3-6 month - 55, 6-12 month - 60) 

Newborn Size 

Round 21: Hdc in each stitch around.  

Round 22-23: Working in the 3rd loops of the previous round, hdc in each stitch around.  

Round 24: Working in the 3rd loops of the previous round, sc in each stitch around. Slip Stitch to join and finish off.

Horns: 

Don’t join after rounds. Use stitch marker for each round. 

Use any desired color. 

Round 1: MC, sc x6. Pull tight. (6) 

Round 2: Sc x6. (6) 

Round 3: Repeat *sc, 2sc* x3. (9) 

Round 4: Sc x9. (9)  

Round 5: Sc x9. (9) 

Round 6: Sc x3, 2sc x3, sc x3. (12) 

Round 7: Sc x12. (12) 

Round 8: Sc x5, 2sc x2, sc x5. (14) 

Round 9: Sc x14. (14) 

Round 10: Sc x6, 2sc x2, sc x6. (16) 

Round 11: Sc x 16. (16) 

Round 12: Sc x6, 2sc x4, sc x6. (20) 

Round 13: Sc x20, slip stitch to join, leaving a long tail to sew horns to hat. Stuff with a small amount of polyfil before attaching.  

Eyes (base): 

Don’t join after rounds. Use stitch marker for each round.  

Round 1: With white yarn, mc, sc x6, pull tight. (6) 

Round 2: 2sc in each stitch. (12) 

Round 3: Repeat *sc, 2sc* x6. (18) 

Round 4: Repeat *sc, sc, 2sc* x6. (24)  

Round 5: Repeat *sc, sc, sc, 2sc* x6. (30) 

Round 6: This round will shift the increases between those of the prior rounds, helping to round out the circle. Sc, 2sc. Repeat *sc x4, 2sc) x5. Sc x3. Slip Stitch to join, leaving a long tail for sewing. (36) 

Eyes (pupil and Iris): 

Round 1: With black yarn, mc, sc x6, pull tight and join. (6) 

Round 2: Change to desired Iris color. Ch 2 (doesn’t count as a stitch). 2hdc in each stitch around. Slip stitch to join to beginning of round, leaving a long tail to sew pupil and iris to the base of the eye. (12)

Monster Baby Beanie 

 

Mouth: 

Using black yarn, ch 20. Finish off with a tail to sew to the hat. 

 

For an open mouth, create a second, longer chain to drape below the first, making it large enough to fit the teeth inside the two mouth chains.    

Teeth: 

Make as many as desired. A mouth made of 20 ch stitches can fit 4 teeth.  

Size down to a 3.5mm (E) hook. 

Row 1: Using white yarn, ch 6. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each remaining ch. Ch 1 and turn. (5) 

Row 2: Sc2tog, sc, sc2tog. Ch 1 and turn. (3) 

Row 3: Sc2tog, sc. Ch 1 and turn. (2) 

Row 4: Sc2tog. Finish off with a long tail to sew.
