Raising achievement by the use of mobile learning technologies

MoLeNet 10 second year students were allocated a Fizzbook

Over a six month period they were interviewed as to how the Fizzbooks were helping them in their course

Student achievement in the second year was monitored and compared against first year achievement

The target was to raise final achievement by one grade

Can an increase in final grade be achieved by the allocation of Mobile learning Technologies? Not on its own, the allocation of equipment is key, students with long journeys, no or restricted access to the internet benefited the most.

The majority of the students were aware of the Fizzbooks capabilities, although there were gaps in there understanding of its capabilities. Training has been booked.

The student’s perceptions of how the Fizzbook will help are all positive, access to the internet is perceived as being key, as is the ability to roam.

How do you think the Fizzbook will help you? Students said:

1.To make work easier to do 2.i think it will help me be more motivated to do my work on time as i can use

it whenever wherever, I usually have lack of time so work is in late sometimes 3. the fizzbook has helped me with my work as I can now take my work into

college with me. 4. With my laptop not currently working I have to use my desktop PC which is

slower & not able to move around as well as the Fizzbook 5. I think it will help me learn as I will be able to access all the coursework &

assignments given out and be able to have the internet on the move whenever I need it.

6. it will help me access information needed to complete assignments anytime and anywhere, which will help to do the assignments on time.

7. it will help a great deal because I do not have a working pc at home, my sister has a laptop but she needs it for her uni work there fore id have to go college or library to do my work but this fizzbook device will allow me do work at home at any time and any where. And because its wireless I can do work while relaxing in my bed.
