Lets 2.0: reinventing an online library tutorial as a teaching and learning resource
Jack Hyland, Dublin City University LibraryCONUL annual conference 2015, Athlone
2014• Migrated all content from web pages to
Articulate Storyline • Move from hosting on library web site to
Moodle– Learning analytics– Integration with other modules
Relaunch on Moodle in Sept. 2014. As of Feb. 2015:• >800 enrolments • >100 completions with full marks in quizzes• >400 responses on feedback forms
Huge amount of positive feedback:• “I thought that it was quick, easy and efficient
to use with precise guidelines and a step by step guide to help.”
• “I found it very informative and it has given me good insight into the different sources and ways to gather information.”
Plenty of constructive feedback:• “Too much information that isn't necessary.”• “A bit too wordy. Difficult to maintain focus.”• “…more/tougher questions could be
considered, to really stimulate thought.”• “would be better if more interactive”
And not so constructive:• “To be honest I'm just skipping through this
because my module wants it completed”• “A little boring, but good help”
Redesign principles• Redesign as a tutorial, rather than a manual– Each section should be digestible in one sitting– Don’t cover anything you can’t expect students to
retain• But don’t fix what isn’t broken
EnhancementsIn collaboration with DCU Teaching Enhancement Unit• Lets digital badge
