Why deeper learning matters?

When kids enjoy learning process, they become life long learners and can self-learn anything.
In America, 90% of the kids attend public
schools and only 38% end up getting college
degrees. Science and Technology innovations
are changing life for everyone, yet very little
interest to study STEM subjects. Motivation to
learn and academic performance declines as
kids are "processed in batches" from grade to
grade.
Technology and innovations have been the
foundations of American success, but we are
falling behind. Thought leaders and fortune
500 CEO have been concerned about our
education systems and its outcomes. Many
different ideas and strategies are implemented,
yet no visible progress is made.
College education is getting more expensive
and many students are graduating with more
debt and no prospects of getting a well paid
job. The gab between jobs available and
qualified workforce keep getting wider.
Benefits of Internet are accelerating
innovations. How do you prepare students for
the future that is mostly unknown?
NY Times columnist, Tom Friedman writes
“Average is officially over”. Showing up to
work and doing what is expected is no longer
enough or to keep employed. 21st century
workforce must bring new ideas, initiatives and
passion to innovate to work place. This cannot
happen unless kids start practicing
collaboration, critical thinking and innovative
ways to solve problems from young age.

Inquiry leads to close observation and hands on experiments enable kids to engage in deeper learning. This process is proven to retain most of what they learn.
We empower kids to engage in deep
learning, asking questions, exploring and
connecting information to make sense.
Our afterschool enrichment programs work
with kids in small teams and focus on...
Inquiry and Project Based learning (IBL &
PBL).
Real life examples and projects for
relevance.
Learning by experimenting and observation
in teams.
Continuous research to help students
& teacher/coach.
Promoting out of the box thinking.
Cross Connecting information across the
disciplines.
Learning should never be a boring process.
Our goal is to make learning a fun activity,
so kids develop self-learning habits and
become lifelong learners.
Critical thinking and connecting information
across disciplines seed new ideas.
Some of these ideas with dedication and
hard work will turn into great
innovations. We sincerely hope our
programs enable young minds to be great
innovators and BIG thinkers.
Collaborative team work forces kids to listen to each other, build on ideas and resolve conflicts to achieve common goals.

All our afterschool programs are once a week
for 60 minutes. Team time is well managed and
we ensure that kids are focused and be
productive. We expect kids to work 2-3 hours at
home to prepare, so team time can be used for
more collaborative activities.
Reflect on how everyone did since last
meeting and discuss ways to improve.
Work on team project – 45 minutes.
Identify issues, plan and discuss .
Assign tasks to be worked offline by
everyone.
Record the sessions to be used for
final video on the project.
Plan next week activities and offline
work to be done by everyone.
In session challenge
Discuss a topic that team will research and
learn at home.
Teaching content is no longer enough. Today’s kids need to learn how to learn to be successful in 21st century.
Cost of the program is $10/hour. 15 hours =
$150
Same as most
afterschool learning
programs.
We aim to achieve 95%+ satisfaction rating from parents and
kids.
Focus on tests and grades leads to learning for exams. Kids engaged in deeper learning will do good in tests with no extra effort.
Role of IBL coach/teacher and our hiring / training programs

To enable a learner to process and internalize the concepts, facilitation and questioning is more important than giving away the answers to questions.
In collaborative team learning, teacher role is to enable the discovery process. Most critical skill for an effective IBL
coach is to put right questions at the
right time.
Listening to conversations and questions
is key to this process.
Let the conflicts arise in team discovery
process to find right answer. Conflicts
enable the team to form a hypothesis to
prove or disprove.
Give ample time to explore. Giving
clues and answers must be reserved only
when all other options are exhausted
completely.
IBL starts with
engaging
questions to
involve learner
in the learning
process.
• Look for passion in STEM
• Engaging questioning skills
Hiring right people
• Practice IBL/PBL with the team.
• Watch videos to learn IBL best practices.
Training
• Watch and learn other IBL teachers.
• Weekly cross-learning sessions.
