INSOMNIA•A SLEEP DISORDER WHERE PEOPLE HAVE TROUBLE SLEEPING. PEOPLE WHO SUFFER FROM INSOMNIA DESIRE AND FEEL THE NEED FOR SLEEP, BUT FOR SOME REASON ARE UNABLE TO GET THE AMOUNT OF SLEEP THEIR BODIES NEED.

THE MACHINISTA psychological thriller about a machinist
named Trevor Reznick (Christian Bale)
who’s insomnia and psychological
problems lead to an accident with a co-
worker losing his arm. After Trevor is fired
from his job, he starts dealing with
paranoia and delusions and he just wants
to go to sleep.
Trevor’s insomnia has triggered
hallucinations while he is at work when he
sees a co-worker named “Ivan” that
mysteriously doesn’t exist to anyone but
Trevor. This hallucination triggers a series
of events that includes sticky notes with a
game of hangman that start to appear in
his apartment and a paranoid obsession
with the mysterious Ivan.
TREVOR’S INSOMNIA DRIVEN HALLUCINATIONS AND DELUSIONS DESTROY HIS LIFE AS HE TRIES TO FIGURE OUT WHO THIS MYSTERIOUS “IVAN” IS AND WHY HE IS LEAVING STICKY NOTES FOR HIM IN HIS APARTMENT. HE BECOMES INCREASINGLY CONFUSED WITH THESE EVENTS UNTIL FINALLY HE REALIZES WHAT IS HAPPENING. (I WONT GIVE AWAY ANY SPOILERS)
CONNECTION
TREVOR’S PHYSICAL HEALTH IS AFFECTED BECAUSE HE HAS BECOME DEPRESSED AND NEGLECTS HIS WELL BEING BECAUSE OF HIS INSOMNIA.
Trevor’s insomnia affects his concentration at work and leads to the workplace accident that costs his co-worker an arm. Trevor becomes irritable at work and gets fired.
TREVOR’S CHRONIC INSOMNIA LEADS HIM TO DELUSIONS AND HALLUCINATIONS OF A
MYSTERIOUS MAN NAMED “IVAN” THAT ONLY HE CAN SEE AND INTERACT WITH. HE BECOMES PARANOID AND BELIEVES THAT IVAN IS TRYING TO MAKE HIM GO
INSANE.
CONCLUSIONI BELIEVE THERE IS SOME VALIDITY BETWEEN INSOMNIA AND THE MACHINIST. HOWEVER, I ALSO BELIEVE THAT TREVOR HAS MORE PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS THAN JUST INSOMNIA THAT LEAD TO HIS DOWNWARD SPIRAL.
