Position: Perch/Machine Operator
Location: 85 Morrow Road, Barrie, Ontario
Under the supervision of the Finisher Team Leader, the position performs a variety of fabric finishing
functions. These duties include but are not limited to examining fabric or products for conformity to
quality standards, marking defects, repairing minor defects if possible, and completing all ERP entries.
The remaining points are inserted under the duties and responsibilities section.
Key Requirements:
• Completion of high school, or equivalent.
• Strong mathematical, comprehension and computer abilities.
• Working knowledge of an ERP system and data entry.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience working within a production environment.
• Ability to work independently as well as cohesively with employees and managers as
part of a team.
• Problem solving skills in order to resolve conflicts and problems.
• Excellent interpersonal skills in order to maintain an excellent rapport with co-workers.
• Detail oriented and excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.
• Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure with simultaneous deadlines.
• Ability to remain stationary at a machine for extended periods of time.
Major Responsibilities
1. Sets-up finishing equipment as per work order.
2. Examines fabric or products for conformity to quality standards.
3. Marks defect on fabric and notify Finishing Team Leader.
4. Measures or weighs finished product by placing the rolls on the scale and measuring
them with a standard tape measure.
5. Inspects every meter of the fabric, flags defects and takes samples for the Quality
Control Department.
6. Records information on products inspected such as what coating has been spread on
the material.
7. Assists in the preliminary packaging of products.
8. Repairs and marks minor defects on fabric.
9. Ensures a safe environment at all times.
10. Maintains complete knowledge of and complies with company and departmental
policies, procedures and standards.
11. Maintains client and company confidence by keeping information confidential and
secure.
12. Maintains a positive working relationship with team members and management in a
team environment.
13. Sets-up and organize individual work area with designated supplies, forms and resource
materials while maintaining cleanliness at all times.

- Familiar with the use of measuring tools such as micrometers, verniers, circumference
tapes, etc
- Duties also include the preparation of manufacturing inspection test plans (MITP’s).
- Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T).
- Computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office (Word & Excel).

Machining Job Description:
Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose machines and machining centers to
fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the following duties. Standard
machine department equipment includes mills, lathe, drill press, surface grinder,
inspection granite plate and accessories related to the machine process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Works cooperatively with customers, fellow employees, contractors, and
management
Communicates with management, fellow staff, and customers any project concerns,
project status, and possible area solutions
Completes all assigned tasks in a neat and timely fashion
Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to
determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations,
and setup requirements
Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work
piece for subsequent machining as appropriate
Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories,
and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, grinders
Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed,
coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut
Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance
machining, and adjusts machine controls as required
Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications. Inspects via
appropriate measuring devices. Detail number from drawing is stamped on machined
piece
Confers with engineers, production personnel, or others to resolve machining
problems
The Machinist signs off on the drawings
If there are any changes to be made to the drawing, the Machinist follows proper IAI
procedures ensuring updates are captured
The Machinist performs routine maintenance on the machine department equipment
weekly to ensure proper working order
Organizes heat treatment and black oxide for machined components, once machining
requirements are met
Verifies and only uses measuring instruments that are calibrated using a certified
JOE block set, as detailed in clause 4.11
Responsible for ISO calibration records of all mechanical measuring instruments
within the company.
Basic understanding solid works capabilities.
Computer competent for uploading and downloading NC programs to the NC
Machine.
Ability to store and manage past current and future programs
Ability to develop and recommend machining schedules to accent output from our
design department.
Understands NC formats
Ability to continually improve the output of the NC machines that are available.
Ability to operate and program 3-axis MillPwr NC milling machines
Develop best practices for machining efficiency.
Occasional travel as required within North America

Physical Demands:
This position may require frequent walking, as well as the occasional crouching,
squatting, and kneeling. Working in machining also requires constant cervical flexion, the
chin to chest movement. Maximum lifting weight can reach about 50lbs, maximum
carrying weight is about 20lbs, and the maximum pushing and pulling weights can reach
100-150lbs. Frequent forward reach with both arms is necessary as well as frequent
grasping and handling. Working in this position requires a very strong ability to work
alone and self-supervise as well as the ability to supervise others. It also requires the
ability to handle attention to detail, tight deadlines, responsibility and accountability and
the ability to multi-task.
Education Requirements and Experience for Machining Position:
Minimum Certificate of Qualification for a Precision Metals (General Machinist,
Mould Maker or Tool and Die Making)

Identify and handle various raw material using a 5-ton or 10-ton overhead crane and/or forklift as
required to load parts into the Brake Press, Band-saw or plasma burn table for cutting.
Setup and program (on-screen) an Amada 2204 CNC Brake Press to bend parts according to
blueprint specifications. This includes tool selection and setup, and dimensional validation of
finished parts.
Cut metal and some plastic parts, as required, on a band-saw for conformance to drawing
specifications, and verify all dimensions on finished parts.
Cut metal parts from 4’x8’ metal plate, as required, on a Messer Plasma-Arc burn table
according to the specifications given.
Drill & tap holes, as required, using a pedestal drill press or radial drill.
Remove slag, edges, and spatter from parts using hand tools and grinders (pneumatic and
electric).
Move parts to designated workstation(s) in priority sequence as required.
Safely rig and operate 5-ton overhead crane.
Perform daily operator maintenance checks on equipment and report any concerns to
maintenance for correction.
Identify & document improvement opportunities using established processes.
