The ranking on the ease of resolving insolvency is based on the recovery rate (cents on the dollar). To make the data comparable across economies, several assumptions about the business and the case are used: the recovery rate is recorded as cents on the dollar recouped by creditors through reorganization, liquidation, or debt enforcement (foreclosure) proceedings.

The ranking is the simple average of the percentile rankings on the component indicators of the ease of paying taxes: payments (number per year); time (hours per year); profit tax (%); labour tax and contributions (%); other taxes (%); and total tax rate (% profit).
