Our fetal pig was a female because it had a urethral opening, vaginal orifice, and an anus.

-The urethral opening excretes urine and the vaginal orifice is the opening of the birth canal.

The pig did have a little hair around its body.

We measured the pig

Length: 37cm

Width: 28cm

Oral Cavity

The pigs mouth had teeth appearing that were like little spikes , they are located on the hard and soft palate.

We cut through the bone of the jaw . In here we found the pharynx which is the passage

for food heading to the esophagus.

Here we also discovered the epiglottis

(a flap at the top of the trachea ),

and the esophageal opening.

To find the digestive system we had to cut through the thoracic cavity which was difficult to lots of bone.

We were able to make a clean cut without injuring the kidneys and then cut back the diaphragm.

This picture shows the cut through the thoracic cavity and the diaphragm cut.

In the digestive system we found the…

Liver- which processes and cleans our blood

Gall Bladder- concentrates bile produced by the liver and aids in fat digestion.

Stomach- where food is churned and made into chyme.

Small Intestine- absorption of food and chemical digestion takes place.

Large Intestine- where the waste foods are processed and made into faeces

Rectum- faeces are released.

Pancreas- produces hormones like insulin and glucagon.

Heart-pumping blood through the blood vessels

The Heart is composed of 4 chambers.

Heart

The Heart split longitudinal which shows the 2 atria and 2 ventricles.

The circulatory consists of the heart, arteries, veins, and capillaries.

The Respritory System is responsible for the exchange of gasses.

Is the urinary system

Female Reproductive System:

- We located the ovaries , fallopian tubes, cervix and vagina.

- Male Reproductive System:

- In the male pig you will find the vas deferens, the scrotal sac and the testis.

The picture below is a fetal pigs brain. It is another groups pig however our group took the picture because the brain is a very important part of our body. The brain sends signals which in turn helps the pigs body function.

Things we learned while dissecting pigs….

They have injected paints and formaldehyde to help slow down the decaying.

Pigs have basically the same body parts as humans and other mammals.

These pigs were unborn fetuses.
