An owl was resting on the rooftop of a palace when he saw a

nightingale singing merrily on a palm tree. Everyone who

passed by would bow to greet the nightingale.

A little while later, the king entered the garden. He was holding

a golden tray of finely selected grain. The nightingale flew

from the tree to eat the grain. After feeding the nightingale, the

king left the garden.

The owl asked the nightingale, “May I know why the king is so

kind to you?”

“He likes my singing and he has ordered the servants in the

palace to give me what ever I want.” said the nightingale.

“Even the king gives me first class food in a golden tray.”

The owl stared at the stars in the sky. He thought to himself,

“My voice is many times better than the nightingale’s. if the

king were to hear my singing, he will surely chase away the

nightingale, and he will order the servants to fulfil my

needs…”

Thinking of that, the owl could not resist laughing. His voice

was so loud that people who were fast asleep in the palace

were awakened.

The king furiously called out, “Who was that? Who dares to

howl in the palace? Seize him and bring him to me!”

All the servants went searching. They caught the owl and

brought him to the king.

“Your Majesty, this is the bird that disturbed your sleep.”

“Pull off all his feathers!” the king

ordered.

The servant quickly pulled off the owl’s feather. The naked owl

struggled to find his way back to the forest. Every time he told

the parrot about the incident, he could not resist cursing the

nightingale.

“If not for her, I would not become a naked bird.”

“It’s your fault.” said the parrot. “Why blame it on her?”

“If I had not met her in the palace, I would not have thought of

singing. If I had not sung, I would not have landed myself in

this position. It is all the nightingale’s fault!”

Moral:

Do not simply put the blame on others for your own mistakes.
