INTRODUCTION

TELFORD AND SAWRETY (1977) The term exceptional children refers to those children who deviate from the normal In

physical, mental, emotional or social characteristics of such a degree that they require

special social educational services to develop their maximum capacity.

kirk, Gallagher, anastasiow and coleman (2006)Exceptional child is a child who differs from the average or normal child in

(i) Mental characteristics

(ii) Sensory abilities

(iii) Communication abilities

(iv) Behaviour and emotional development

(v) Physical characteristics

These difference must occur to such an extent that the child requires either a

modification of school practise or special education services to develop his or her

unique capabilities

MUSIC , LANGUAGE) OR SET OF SENSORIMOTOR SKILLS (PAINTING , DANCE, SPPORTS)

less in the better eye even with correction,(ii) or whose field of vision is so restricted

that it subtends an angle of 20 degree or less in the better eye after correction.

ORTHOPEDIC handicapped

The crippled child in the orthopaedic sense is one who has a defect

which causes a deformity or interference with normal functions of the

bones, muscles or joints. It may be due to disease, accident or

heredity.

Characteristics of orthopaedic handicapped

May have limited mobility

May have difficult writing if upper extremities are involved

Slurred speech

Body pain and discomfort

Fatigue

Lack of ability to accomplish a particular motor movement
