FormsFormsAt the beginning of a social text film there are a series of credits which include the company ident, cast, producers and directors.

We incorporate these conventions into out opening sequence by adding a series of production credits which appear after a shot series of rolling a joint. These credits are fixed onto a black background using a white Helvetica typeface font. The form of our opening sequence is quite similar to that of the existing social realist film 'soft'.

In some social realist texts, elliptical editing is used this allows the same event to be a shorter length to move it along faster and to keep audiences engaged. A good example of this is

In our film's opening sequence, during the garden scene, we used elliptical editing to shorten the length of Mary-Jane smoking. This also added to the effect that Mary-Jane was getting high.

Natural Lighting is mainly used in Social Realist as it makes the film setting more naturalistic and close to reality.

In the garden scene, we used an artificial outdoor light as it was a night scene. We didn’t make it too bright as we wanted to use the generic conventions of naturalistic light.

FormFormSocial Realist Films start revealing everything to the audience from the beginning, therefore the sense of mystery is removed.

We developed this form by showing the audience a snippet of her drug addiction we did not show everything because we wanted to keep the film quite mysterious but also reveal a bit of her problem to keep to the form of existing products. We also developed the form by only showing the bottom half of her step mother which would make the audience question what she looks like adding to the sense of mystery

The majority of Social Realist texts tend to use inexperienced actors to achieve a realistic product For example, actress Katie Jarvis in Fish Tank was spotted at Tilbury station whilst arguing with her boyfriend.

However, in our film, the actor has had a background in Acting which challenges this convention.

In Social Realist Films, they often surround the story around White, working class people as they are stereotypically the ones who are often sees in life situations.

The actor in our film is Asian and from a middle classed family this will not only challenge the conventions of social realist texts but also stereotypes people have about Asian girls who stereotypically tend to be intelligent and well-behaved.This allows the audience to question; 'Why has this not been done before?' and; to draw their own conclusions 'Why she ended up rebelling?'
