Codes and conventions•Striking image that dominates the add – simple image that anchors meaning. This is

used to grab audiences attention and draw them in, making them more intrigued about

the show.

•Channel logo- always placed on the middle right position of the image.

•Banner / boarder.

•Tag line / slogan. They should be relevant to the topic and anchor the meaning of the

image and have a significant effect on the audience, weather it be humorous, a pun, or

a piece of information that draws the audience in.

•Date / information / time to inform the audience. Sometimes if the show is on that day,

it will just contains “Tonight, 9pm” however, if the show is being advertised for a few

weeks time, the full date will be shown.

•Simple colour scheme, sticking with only a few different colours. The colours used

should be the same between the logo and the slogan / scheduled information

•Channel 4 font.

Codes and conventions

•Limited amount of texts. This is to create hints to what the documentary will be

about. It is significant to not give away too much information as audiences may feel

that they already knew what the documentary will outline.

•Little manipulation. Not too much Photoshop and editing as making the image too

complicated may put off the audience.

•A4 image, normally landscape. This makes it easier to import into magazines or

newspaper quickly.
