Aim to give students opportunities to work alongside scientists and engineers so that they see the excitement and challenge involved and it encourages them into physics and engineering at University.
Between ½ - 1% of the young men and women who go to University to study physics in the UK come from our school.
In 2007 on our CERN trip we visited the Medipix laboratories on site and met Dr Michael Campbellspokesman for the Medipix collaborations
ALICE detector
Space Experiment Competition
December 2007 a team of sixth form students entered a National Space Competition run by Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd and the British National Space Centre.
Langton Ultimate Cosmic ray Intensity Detector
Designed an experiment using Timepix detectors to collect cosmic ray data in Low Earth Orbit.Raised extra funding to space qualify the Timepix chips.

project - inspirational
There look to be interesting possibilities for doing physics with the network of CERN@school detectors and LUCID linked up through GridPP. This is a reproducible model.
I believe the project will help to inspire the next generation of physicists and engineers, computer scientists and mathematicians in our schools, keep teachers inspired and encourage more into the profession.
