Hi Everyone! My

name is Earth and

today we’re going

to talk about the

solar system.

Page 3: Solar system (becky)

Let’s take a closer look at the

planets

Page 4: Solar system (becky)

Mercury

Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. Every 88 days Mercury evolves around the sun one time.

Although Mercury does not have an atmosphere it does have glaciers. Since Mercury is so close to

the Sun, it is very hot. Normal temperatures during the day time can reach up to 800 degrees Fahrenheit .Due to its iron composition, Mercury

has a large mass. Mercury has no

atmosphere!

Venus

Venus is the same size as Earth but because of its atmosphere made of carbon dioxide and sulfur compounds its temperatures are much hotter. Venus is the hottest planet and is the second planet closest to the sun. Venus takes 225 days to orbit around the sun once.

Venus is like my twin!

EarthEarth is the 5th largest

planet in our solar system

and is the 3rd planet from

the sun. It takes 365.25

days for the Earth to orbit

around the Sun once.

Personally this is my favorite planet! I might be a little biased though.

Mars

Every 687 days Mars evolves around the Sun. Just like Earth, Mars poles are covered in ice. Mars’s atmosphere is very thin and consists of mostly carbon dioxide. Mars is the 4th planet from the Sun.

Did you know that Mars was named after the Roman

God of War?

JupiterJupiter

Jupiter has a very slow orbit around the sun at 12 years per revolution. Although it has a slow orbit it has a very fast rotation. Days on Jupiter only last 10 hours. Jupiter is the 5th planet away from the Sun.

You could fit 1,300 Earths

inside of Jupiter!

Saturn

It takes Saturn 29.5 years to

orbit the Sun one time. Being

the 6th planet fr

om the sun

Saturn is approximately 658

million miles away. Saturn is a

very gaseous planet

consisting of 97% hydrogen

and 3% helium. It would be impossible to

stand on Saturn because it is so

gaseous!

Uranus Uranus takes 87 years to orbit the Sun. It is a very icy planet because it is the 7th planet from the sun. The planet’s mass is 14 times larger than Earth.

Uranus is the coldest planet

in the solar system!

Neptune

Neptune is the farthest planet from the sun and just like

Uranus it is mostly ice. It take Uranus 165 years to orbit the Sun. Neptune’s atmosphere

mostly consists of methane gas, which is what gives it the blue

color.

Neptune is the stormiest planet. It is

known to have hurricanes that are

three times faster than hurricanes on Earth!
