The All India Engineering/ Archi-tecture Entrance Exam (AIEEE) will go completely online from

this year, just like the Common Admis-sion Test (CAT) for IIMs.The CBSE, which conducts the national exam every year, decided to to go ahead with the move on account of the leak of a question paper last year which forced several students to take the exam again.The next AIEEE is scheduled to be held nationwide on April 29, 2012.Last year, a majority of the students opt-ed for the conventional exam since the option was allowed. The plan was to con-duct online exams for one lakh students out of the 11.5 lakh applicants, but less than 5,000 students opted for the on-line exam. In Andhra Pradesh, of the 1.5 lakh applicants, less than 100 opted for the online exam last year. This year, the CBSE has decided not to give students

the option. “This year, the CBSE is planning to con-duct online exams on a mass scale. Stu-dents are advised to acquaint themselves with the new method,” a CBSE circular

stated. An competent agency will be em-

ployed to ensure smooth conduct of the test. About 28,000 B.Tech seats and 1,000 B. Arch seats are filled annually through the AIEEE.

Students of India who have passed 10+2(Class XII) or an equivalent exam or appearing for the qualifying examina-tion are considered for the provisional admission into the degree course.If you are an aspiring engineer, and you want to appear AIEEE you have to pass your 10+2 with an aggregate of 50 % marks with Physics and Mathematics as the compulsory subjects. Students who wish to be architects are required to pass their 10+2 with an aggregate of 50 % marks with Mathematics as a compulsory sub-ject. Chemistry, Computer Science, Bio-Technology or Biology can be taken as optional subject. Foreign nationals or In-dian nationals living abroad can also ap-ply for AIEEE and get admission through Educational Consultants India Ltd into centrally funded institutions.

Candidates are ranked on an all-India basis and state basis. Thus, they have an All India Rank (AIR) and a State Rank (SR).

I still work 18 hours a day to lead it on to a pace and strive through in the right direction.

2) The second principle is to make people. A company is all about people, and you have to take risk in believing in them. An entrepreneur should keep on meeting new people on daily basis. In the first 6 months I had hired 2 people, and had few consultants too. In an year, I was working with four full timers and three part timers. Now, we are a team of eight full timers and many partners and consultants.

3)The third principle is to be well aware of legal concerns and financials. You should know how to plan things on excel sheets. Though things run on as-sumptions and intuitions many a times, but excel sheets are always the back-bone. Also, remember that there is no need of having a business plan before starting a startup. What you need to start is a vis-iting card, a pamphlet of your offerings and formals.

SWOT Analysis Strengths:

Our network in industry with colleg-es and students is the main asset, with more than 35 colleges and more than 2,500 students as part of it, in last one and half years. On the service end, our strength lies in building knowl-edge- intensive content delivered via our various offerings. Both these strengths add up to keep our reputa-tion very strong in the market.

Weaknesses: Our customers – the colleges and students, are still living in a different traditional era and it is a challenge to educate them and fill the demand-supply gap. Also, our biggest con-straint is there in terms of resources and finances.

BISLERIBisleri was originally an Ital-ian company created by Felice Bisleri, who first brought the idea of selling bottled water in India. Bisleri then was intro-duced in Mumbai in glass bot-tles in two varieties – bubbly & still, in 1965. Parle bought over Bisleri (India) Ltd. in

1969 and started bottling wa-ter in glass bottles under the brand name ‘Bisleri’. Later Par-le switched over to PVC non-returnable bottles & finally advanced to PET containers. In 1995, Ramesh J. Chauhan started expanding Bisleri op-erations. In 2003 Bisleri an-nounced its venture to Europe.After that Ramesh J. Traffic jam is a well accepted rou-tine for Amdavadis. We have ac-cepted bumper to bumper traffic

jams and screeches of short brakes un-complainingly.

16th August was no different a day for me. Caught in breathing the car ex-hausts, it took me around 40 odd min-utes to reach to Blind Men’s Associa-tion from PRL Dispensary! Like a good civilian, I kept following the car ahead of me, GJ- 1- KJ- 2980 to avoid further congestion. When we reached close to IIM, the person in the car ahead, got out in a jolt. An average Gujarati male in his mid 40s who can easily get merged in the crowd, was an awakened citizen. With a rush he reached the other side of the road, where vehicles were flocking themselves in the wrong lane, affecting the traffic flow on the other side. This, Mr. 2980, parked himself close to the bonnet of the first car in the wrong lane and insisted that the cars be sent back! He stood there till the drivers reversed

the cars. I saw a real INDIAN that day! But, he had no candle in his hand, no placard! He wasn’t rallying nor had he joined the group ‘Let us manage traf-fic’ on social networks. He was a com-mon man who had learnt not to accept a wrong.

On a macro perspective, what we need is a protest sans hollers. Conquering the devil within is the first step to any protest! It makes much sense to me to be proactive in my day to day life than on one fine day, blocking the roads and closing down the institutes!

I wonder how many of us have led cor-r u p t i o n

free lives! Not only returning a favour for bunch of green bucks, but accepting unearned applause is also corruption. If we join a crowd without a clean con-science, we are nothing but the patients of dissociative identity disorder.

Corruption is like a lump of mud. It has no limbs to walk through the system. It has been bartered, by politicians, offi-cials and common people like us! I am also a victim of the cor- r u p t G o v e r n m e n t s , like all of y o u , all

these years of my life. But unfortunately, the corrupt Government also reflects on the majority of Corrupt Indians who have crowned them to corrupt the sys-tem further. These corrupt Indians in-clude me and you, at different times!

For the cause of curbing corruption, I fully support Team Anna and their initiative. They have forced Indians to pause and ponder over this grave issue. However, I am afraid that an absolutely powerful Lokpal may rather force us to deal with keeping him clean than ensur-ing a corruption free system.

I strongly believe that along with legis-lating stringent laws, we need to change the mindsets. The day, as an individual we learn to withstand and/or refrain from greed and temptation, conjugation of which leads to the birth of corrup-tion, we will probably have a free society in true sense.

So what makes hang-ing out so popular, is it the back-biting or bitching about the boss /colleague /friends, or simply reviving your spirit? Ask Ritika Sahani, a corporate profession-

discuss everything under the sun here, its like a part of rou-tine now”. Apnu Amdavad boasts of a va-riety of hangout zones....from kitlis to joints where maska

buns maggi, vada pav, cold coffee are served. These are places for youngsters to meet

and greet each other. Shalin Pandya, a third year law stu-dent says, “My favourite hang out zone is University kitli, where we friends meet daily for 2-3 hours. It is like our ritual.” For some however, such places seem a great place for market-ing, Abhishek Pathak who is a sales manager, feels “Such plac-es help us interact and de-stress after a long day, they also serve as a great meeting spot.” Cuppa lovers still swear their visit as de-stressing, Krinali Bhatt, a BPO executive puts up, “A strong cup of chai makes your day, be it early morning or late evening, just sipping that tea with your friends makes you

happy.” Idea- sharing at such hang out places is a new rage, many new people meet at such hangout zones and share their views. Dhruti Shah, a B.Com student who has organised such meets says, “We friends decide on a common topic and then in-vite friends from other colleges to share their opinions, these hang out zones provide a great platform.” Well, if you are still sitting and wondering what to do.....go and hang out!

“So, what are your habits?”- A clichéd question in corporate interview. Most youngsters take it as lightly as possible. But it’s not your habits he is interested in it’s your personality that he is inquiring about. Now the question is in the midst of certificates, degrees, knowledge… how does it matter if I bluff over my habits? It does, matter, purely because your habits will flaunt themselves even without your notice.

Some very usual behaviors, too miniscule to notice, catch eyes before anything else. How many times have you noticed someone clean his spectacles with his shirt or wipe his wet face on his sleeves or bite a corner of her nail as if nail trimmer is the most expensive investment to make? Quiet often isn’t it? These once in a while gestures turn into habits and if not nipped in the butt they can become your personality. In other words, your habits, in long-run, define you.

One dilemma with habits is that you don’t adapt them. You know about them only once they are a part of you and are evident enough to be noticed. And in bitter cases, they come to your knowledge

when someone else notices them or when you pay a great deal for it. Moreover, when we say habit we tend to connote them with negative behaviors. Good habits are very much a part of us and we need to consciously work upon them.

It is important to develop good habits that spread a positive vibe in the work culture. Ready to take challenges, acknowledging and quick response to mails, clean desk, neat and tidy

dressing sence and many such habits define ones corporate image.

In corporate life

your major time is spent with your team which gradually becomes a second family. One needs to appreciate that every human is more or less

judgmental. So you need to be consciously aware of your

actions as they give cues to everyone

around. For instance in many corporate smokers are looked upon as people who will continuously take breaks and as a result hamper the efficiency of the team. This need not be true, but is a strong perception. One need not change every habit for the sake of corporate life but surely needs to be conscious about them.

Your habits also define your inter-personal relations with peers in the organization. And in case you serve the customers directly, your habits can also define your existence in the company. So next time you are on a client visit, make sure to carry your handkerchief along with, let your cuff be neat on the wrist.

These habits are hard to change and won’t leave you so easily. But the best way to tackle them is by jotting down all your habits and then continuously ensures that you realize when you repeat which. Might sound stupid at the first glance but in long run you will appreciate that only you can help yourself grow a better personality.

Thus these small things make a huge difference to your corporate life, so take care.

Corruption is again at the centre stage of our national life.The debate is centred around corruption in

government. But is that the only form of corruption? Many corporate bigwigs have given support to the movement against corruption in public life. Does that mean that the corporate India is absolutely clean?

Shailesh: Hi Rohan! Where are you going in such a hurry? What’s up, buddy?Rohan: I am going to attend a public meeting in support of Anna’s movement for a Jan Lokpal. It is high time that we teach these corrupt politicians and public servants a lesson.Shailesh: I agree that we must put up a united front against corruption. But we must be wary of all forms of corruption and not just against the corruption by politicians and public servants.Rohan: What do you mean? These parasites loot public money, take bribes and make merry at the cost of poor and powerless. Who else indulges in such shameless behaviour?

Shailesh: It is true that corruption in government is rampant and serious but many private companies too are hot beds of corruption.Rohan: You are surely pulling my leg!Shailesh: No Rohan, I am dead serious. If you think carefully, bribery is just one form of corruption. Although there

are many definitions of corruption but one simple definition is “an act by which ‘insiders’ profit at the expense of ‘outsiders’. In many companies those in position of power abuse the power for personal gains the same way the politicians and others enrich themselves.

Rohan: Who are the ‘insiders’ and ‘outsiders’ in a company?Shailesh: The managers are the insiders and the shareholders are the outsiders. They have better knoweldge about the affairs of the company are also in a position to take decisions about the company. In an ideal world they should take decisions for benefit of the owners (shareholders) of the company and not for their own benefit. But many a times they take decisions to enrich themselves at the cost of ordinary shareholders. This is called the ‘Principal-Agent Problem’: shareholders are the ‘principals’ and managers are the ‘agents’. Rohan: But how can they enrich themselves at the cost of shareholders?Shailesh: They can do this in many ways. For starters, they may buy raw material at higher than fair prices and take a cut from the vendors. The shareholders as a whole bear the loss but the managers gain. Then the managers may give themselves higher than fair salaries and bonuses. In many cases the promoters of the company occupy key management positions. They may employ their near and dear ones at unreasonable salaries. They may incur wasteful expenditure like buying

company planes to fly the top executives. The shareholders foot the bill while the managers fly high.Rohan: But why don’t the shareholders stop them?Shailesh: For one many shareholders don’t have intimate knowledge of workings of a company. Then most shareholders have so small ownership that they find it difficult to make themselves heard. Their strongest safeguard is the ‘Board of Directors’ which is expected to keep a watch on the management. But many a times managers hoodwink the directors to push through their personal agenda. Rohan: So there is no difference between the plight of common citizens and small shareholders?Shailesh: There is a difference: if shareholders feel that the management is not honest they can sell their share and quit the company. The ordinary citizens don’t have the luxury of quitting the country!

It was an interesting co-incidence that within days of the disappear-ance of our old trusted 4-anna, a

single fragile Anna could put the hardly governing Central Government on their knees and this fragile old Anna became stronger than Rajnikant. You know now that it was Anna who decided when to

come out of the jail and not the police. The last week proved the saying - “histo-ry repeats” and taught us that whenever history repeats it was always with more strength, especially when the people in power fail or refuse to learn from the history. When Anna refused to get out of the jail the people refused to get off the roads, reminding us of the forgotten history of our independence movement lead by another non-violent, fragile, scantily dressed fakir, the Mahatma. The only smiling faces in the whole country, it seems were of the candle, topi and fl ag makers, again it’s a good thing that hap-pened because making of these articles still remain a cottage industry in India.It was on 16th August around 4 pm that I got an sms from a not-so-young friend requesting me to be part of the candle light vigil and march at Vastrapur lake. Being one of the “children of the six-ties” I quickly called off all the meetings and reached Vastrapur Lake - now fall-

ing into a happening place of Western Ahmedabad and a gathering place for the open space craving middle class. A pleasant surprise was waiting for me there. Instead of my expectation of a “mammoth” crowd of familiar and known group of some hundred people, there was actually a big crowd of a thou-sand people, and most of them were refreshingly new and young. It was a pleasant surprise because barring the

Anti-reservation movement I never had a chance to see people coming out on streets in Ahmedabad for a cause. My experience of more than two decades of walking with the masters of the civic society has made me realise that Amda-vadis weren’t available for street demon-strations. Let me tell you with frankness that what happened in 2002 was not a demonstration of solidarity, nor a com-ing out on the street for a cause, it was actually a demonstration of our weak-ness and cowardliness. Surprise came again the next morning with another sms inviting me to join another rally, of course with a burning candle in hand at the new happening Vastarpur lake. This time I was very sure of having a shrunken crowd, but surprises refused to keep away from me; there were again a 1000 plus crowd and most of them were the members of the Great Indian Rat race......well done B-RATS.

However there are some questions that you need to ask yourself like - What do you do when your par-ents can’t stand the person you’re dating? Why are you dating this person? Are you crazy in love or loving driv-ing your parents crazy? You need to take an honest look at your romantic motivations and the reasons for your parents’ objections. If you are motivated by rebellion the simplest and right thing to do is end the relation-ship. Still if you are confused we help you out with fi nding the right path.....

Examining Your Parents’ ObjectionsSometimes you have to fi ght for love. If your parents don’t like the person you love you will defi nitely have a fi ght on your hands. It is important for you to understand where your parents are coming from and why they disap-prove of the relationship. When you know why they object to your relation-ship you will be better able to reason with them and stand up for your love. It is up to you to look at the whole situ-ation and see if your parents are see-ing something you aren’t or if they are acting from a place of ignorance.

When Your Parents Are WrongParents are not always right. Objec-tions based on racism, classism, reli-gious bias or homophobia are not ac-ceptable. While your parents may have the best of intentions with these types

of objections you need to hold your ground and not give in to their bigotry. Your parents are likely objecting because they fear for you. They are probably wor-ried about how the world will react to your relationship. Being in an unconven-tional relationship can be diffi cult. The world can be a cruel place. Your parents are probably worried about seeing you struggle. Their reaction is wrong but it is based on their love for you and their desire to see you get the best out of life. Sometimes parents cling to outdated social attitudes. They hold on to ideas that are not shared by your generation. If this is the case, if your parents are trying to get you to conform to their biases, you need to stand your ground. You need to tell them that in this situ-ation you will never see things their way. Suggest that in this case you should agree to disagree. They probably won’t like this but they don’t have to. Objec-tions based on bigotry are wrong even when they come from your parents.

When Your Par-ents Are RightWhen you are in love you may be blind to your partner’s fl aws. Your parents aren’t

so easily fooled. They can often see things in your relationship that you are unwilling or unable to see. They love you and want what is best for you and seeing you in a bad relationship is hard. Of course they will disapprove! When your parents see something in your relationship that they don’t like you need to listen to what they have to say. You may not agree with them after you hear their point of view but it is important that you hear them out. If your parents have heard bad things about your partner, if they have seen behaviors they don’t like or if they are worried that you are being hurt, they are going to object to your relationship. You need to try to listen to them without getting defensive. They may be right. If you have started doing harmful things because of your partner, like alcohol or drugs, your parents have a valid con-cern. Your parents have a right to speak up if your grades are dropping, if you’re losing friends or if you have stopped doing the things you used to love to do. Listen to them. It is not healthy for any relationship to consume your life. Your parents may be able to see that this is happening when you can not.

Gen Y got to display their abundant talent when Rhythm Divine an inter-

college singing/dancing/ instrumental competition auditions kick-started at Gulmohar Park. Organised by Golden Premier Events and Media Company, many collegians participated in this grand hunt for talents. The auditions were held on August 19-20 and a

The singing contestants were judged by famous singer

Bhumit Shah. Two days of auditioning at Rhythm Divine witnessed some of the best talents in Ahmedabad. Both a mix of latest and old hits were sung by the participants. Contestants mesmerized the judge by singing Yaro Dosti Badi hi……

who felt that Amdavadis have real talent be it singing or performing. An interesting mix of talent was seen, with some

confident and some first-timers who performed on stage. The band forced people to sway

to their tunes. T h e contestants who made it

through the first

awarded with certificates.

The green room was seen with talents practising their moves for the last time before

making it big. A lot of anxiety was seen admits the excitement. Dance Judge Mr. Taral Shah from Spin Academy was amazed by

t h e moves and grooves of these

participants. T h e auditioneers w e r e called one by one to showcase their talent. The D J made sure that h e gave the best mix for t h e music.

M a n y students who

came to cheer their best friends who were

performing were happy that such a competition was happening in

Ahmedabad. A young enthusiast who cleared the first round said, “I am so grateful to Rhythm Divine, it gave me

a platform that I was w a i t i n g for, I will now be s t a r t i n g

my preparation for w i n n i n g this competition.”

Aarakshan is a great movie, with refreshing seriousness, con-vincing characterization, and

enough material for provoking your thoughts. And definitely it does not hurt the sentiments of the ‘backward castes’ as our politicians made it out to be. One more example that our lead-ers do not see good movies and they seldom read good books, but would be there to shout at full throttle to ban anything that is controversial – read, beyond their comprehension.

The film discusses two issues ‘the good and bad affects of Reservation’ and ‘Commercialization of Educa-tion’. Handling two such serious issues through a medium that is considered to be for entertainment has diluted the essence of the film. As any good meaning film, Aarakshan also ends with good v/s bad and with the obvious victory of the good and in the process making the issue of Aarakshan out of focus. AB is the right and perfect choice as Prabhakar Anand. To play against the towering character of Prabhakar Anand epitomized by the legendary AB, Manoj Bajpayee as Mithilesh must have struggled a lot but in the end MB proves that he is of good mettle. If you are an AB fan, you would love this

movie just because he has done the best by presence, voice and not act-ing. Saif (Ali Khan) tried hard to prove that he is an actor; luckily he has been given a lot space to prove that he is good raw material in the safe hands of Prakash Jha. And thankfully, Deepika Padukone got a real chance to climb on the roof and shout that she is an actor and can do justice to a character. In the entire film she kept her cool and lived as the character. High time that people who matter in the industry recognize her as an actress instead of projecting her as a sex symbol.Our 17 years old son was very happy with the tone of the film for the first 30 minutes. It had him laughing and enjoying. But after 30 minutes he was out of sync, he kept asking about the turn around, forcing us to give him a session on ‘Reservation’ – right from the days of Manu, who preached “cha-tur varna – four distinct divisions of la-bour - during the intermission. Still he was not able to relate and understand the whole scenario. It was not his fault, because all his life he had never heard what caste is, what reservation is and who is and who is not eligible under the “reservation act”.Hence, our advise to all those who in-tent to see this film below the age of 25 is that, you should consult, read, discuss at least with your parents, el-der friends and teachers about the era that was dogged by the word “aarak-shan” – reservation. Otherwise you would miss the essence of the film; you would miss the efforts of Prakash Jha and Anjum Rajabali to make you aware of an India that went through turmoil and confusions in the process of development. We recommend this film to the en-tire group of youngsters, irrespective of their political stand, ideology and inclinations. But make sure that you have read the recent history of India.

Aarakshan, View without reservations Ok, we know that the topic is long

enough to make you make you go to sleep. But Chip and Dan

Heath’s “Made to Stick” is none of that: It’s a tour de force; powerful, compel-ling, and reader-friendly! You’ll be aston-ished at how many portions of this book you’ll think one of your family members, friends, coworkers (superiors and subor-dinates alike) would be well-advised to read. What makes some ideas triumph and others die an ugly death is not just a matter of curiosity; it’s actually some-thing you can use on both a personal and professional level. There comes a point when you shudder thinking about how cumbersome, boring, confused, and plain unbearable a book about “ ideas” can be, but the ingredients

Don’t borrow it, don’t browse through it-just get your own copy (because you’ll want to own it), and get it soon!

1. All fats are bad. Unsaturated fats like Omega-3’s found in fish and monoun-saturated fats found in olive oil, canola oil, nuts and avocados all aid good health. Saturated fats from animal products and trans-fats, partially hydrogenated oils, are the ones that should be used sparingly.

5. Never eat after 8pm. Again, a calorie is a calorie

Girnar is a mountainous region located in Junagadh district, about 327 kilometres from Ah-

madabad in the state of Gujarat. It is located at a height of 3660 feet above sea level and the region is popular for its lush green forest cover of Gir and for several places of religious importance. There are several temples here that are of importance to the Hindus and Jains along with the presence of mosques for Muslim pilgrims, making the place an example of unity in diversity.

The Girnar hills are a collection of five hills, and on each hill, there is an an-cient Jain temple belonging to the 12th century. The temple can be reached by climbing 4000 steps. Other than tem-ples, there is also a big mosque, where childless women seek blessings.

Standing 1031 meters tall, the moun-

tains in Girnar are the highest peaks in Gujarat. There are numerous temples and tourist attractions here includ-ing BharathariGufa (cave), Mali Parab, Ramchandra Temple and HathiPashan, enroute to the summit. Other popu-lar attractions present here are the Jain temples that are dedicated to the

Tirthankars and the Neminath temple, which consist of ancient marble works along with sculptures. Other temples present in Girnar include the Abhinan-danPrabhu Temple that was built by King Kumar Pal.

Girnar does not have any airport of its

own and the nearest airport is in Rajkot, which is located at a distance of 132 ki-lometres. It also does not have a train station of its own either and the near-est station is at Junagadh, 5 kilometres away.

Girnar is easily reachable by road as a lot of buses run from all major cities of Gujarat to Junagadh, from where Gir-nar can be reached. Moreover, buses run from areas like Ahmedabad, Surat, Valsad and Mumbai to Junagadh.

The weather conditions here are very ex-treme as summers here are hot and dry with temperatures reaching a maximum of 44 Celsius. The summer here ranges from the months of March to June. The region receives monsoon in the months of July, August and September in form of moderate rainfall. The best time to visit Girnar is during winters, in the months of October to January with a minimum temperature of 10 Celsius.

Pothamedu (6 kms from Munnar)Pothamedu offers an excellent view of the tea, coffee and cardamom planta-tions in Munnar. The rolling hills, the lush mountain and the breathtaking scenery here is ideal for trekking and long mountain walks.

Devikulam (7 kms from Munnar)This idyllic hill station with its velvet lawns, exotic flora and fauna and the cool mountain air is a rare experience. The Sita Devi Lake with its mineral wa-ters and picturesque surroundings is a good picnic spot. The lake is also ideal for trout fishing.

Pallivasal (8 kms from Munnar)This is the venue of the first Hydro Elec-tric Project in Kerala and a place of im-mence scenic beauty.

Attukal (9 kms from Munnar)A panorama of waterfalls and rolling hills, Attukal, located between Munnar and Pallivasal, is a feast for the eyes. The place is also ideal for long treks.

Nyayamakad (10 kms from Munnar)

Rajamala (15 kms from Munnar)The natural habitat of the Niligiritahr, Rajamala is 2695 Mts above sea level. Half the world’s population of the rare mountain goat or tahr which is fast becoming extinct, is now found here.TheNiligiritahr in Rajamala are now to be found in small herds found in Eravikulam-Rajamala region. The total number of NiligiriTahrs in Rajamala is estimated to be over 1300.
