SYDNEY EXCURSION 2011

Students choosing this subject need to have a genuine interest in the VISUAL ARTS.

You don’t necessarily need to be able to draw well just have a creative mind.

There are many ways to express yourself creatively from PHOTOGRAPHY to SCULPTURE to MIXED MEDIA to COMPUTERS to FILM and so much more.

Students choosing VISUAL ARTS will have the opportunity

• to go to Sydney to see Artexpress, the Museum of Modern Art, The National Art Gallery, The White Rabbit Gallery and visit the studio of Brett Whiteley.

• Visit the local Art Gallery

• attend workshops

During the Preliminary Course students will have access to a broad range of exercises to help promote ideas they may wish to develop in their BODY of WORK you have to produce in Year 12. You have all of Year 12 to work on the one Body of Work. There are many choices that you can choose from. The BOW is worth 50% of the HSC mark.

The other 50% is made up from a written exam. This tests the students knowledge of artists and three main areas of study – THE FRAMES, PRACTICE and CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

This is a NON ATAR course

• Students are encouraged to have their own cameras so that they are not totally dependent on the school environment as a source of inspiration for their work.

• Students get to work on the new Macintosh computers and will have access to many programs that are not on the student laptops. They will become competent in such programs as iMovie. iDVD, iPhoto and iStopmotion

• Students will also learn to digitally enhance and alter images using Photshop.

• Students will develop many units of work including digital still photographs and digital video including stop frame animation.

• Students will be required to undertake research assignments and learn to write about artists and artworks.

MUSIC 1 is a course designed to cater for students at every entry level from beginners to experienced musicians.

You can choose music of your own choice in the manner of your own choice, that is COMPOSITION, PERFORMANCE OR A STUDY OF A STYLE which will allow you to have a conversation with an examiner.

Students taking MUSIC 1 will have opportunities-

• To perform at school events such as ‘On Show’, ‘Capa Performance Evenings’ and Assemblies.

• To work with other students in the class to form small ensemble groups

• Travel to Sydney to see Encore (the best performances by HSC students) at the Opera House, go to musicals and other see other shows.

• Attend HSC Music Camps where you will be able to perform and get feedback from markers and other Music teachers.

• All students will do a core of COMPOSITION, PERFORMANCE AND MUSICOLOGY.

• Each student must do the Aural exam. This is worth 30% of your HSC

• Each student must do at least one performance piece. This can be voice or instrument

• For the remainder of the HSC students choose 3 other topic areas. The list is long and varied.

•You can do three more performances so 70% of your mark could come from performance

DRAMA is a creative and collaborative art form

Work together to create Site Specific and Street Theatre

* One of your performances for your HSC will be working with a small group where you write and direct as a group.

DRAMA allows you to:• Attend the North Coast Regional Drama Camps with other schools

• Travel to Sydney to see ONSTAGE (The best HSC Drama performances) and other productions

• Do workshops with Australian theatre for Young People, Belvoir St, Improv Australia or Bell Shakespeare Co

• Work individually to perform monologues, design sets or costumes, write scripts, direct performances and / or make videos.

For the HSC you study Australian Drama and Theatre, Studies of Drama and Theatre, group performances and an Individual Project. You con choose between -

SCRIPT WRITING, COSTUME DESIGN, SET DESIGN, VIDEO, PERFORMANCE. LIGHTING DESIGN, PROMOTION AND PROGRAMMING, DIRECTORS FOLIO AND CRTICAL ANALYSIS
