Break down of images from my original magazines

Intense eye contactRough background, corrugated iron shutters behind them covered in graffiti. Could suggest mise en scene of their personalities or music.

The band are the focus point of the photo, they fill pretty much all of the frame, as the photo is quite close up. Posed photo, rather than

natural/candid, the looking down from his sunglasses adds an over the top pose, which could either be seen as humorous or patronising, looking down on all his fans.

Taken from a low angle so they appear bigger in the photo, emphasising they are the main focus point.

Intense eye contact

Clothing and background fits with the colour scheme.

Again, like the last photo they are looking down at the camera, could be a common theme for front cover photos, establishing that you are the reader and they are the artist, looking down on all their fans.

The background looks very casual, considering they are very posed, they haven’t gone for the stereotypical posed in a studio.

The dark background and the spotlight on the artists emphasises their importance. It also gives the effect of a dance floor which represents their music.

They have very direct and intense eye contact with the camera and audience, I have found this is very common for the front cover picture, this could be because it makes the audience and the artist feel more connected.

This front cover photo differs from the others, in that the people on the front are still the focus point but they haven’t been put close up and in your face. Yet the fact they are in the spotlight still grabs your attention.

Their clothing fits the background, being dark means their faces stand out, and the shininess of the jackets mean that the light reflects of them and emphasises their outline.

Casual background to the photo, looks like a room in his house where he mixes, as opposed to a recording studio. This could suggest to the audience that a lot of DJ’s create their music in their own homes.

Strong eye contact with the camera, adds seriousness a casual photograph.

Mise en scene of the props, him being surrounded my vinyl's representing his passion and what he does.

Most of the photo is taken up with his DJ equipment, he is surrounded with his DJ stuff, could be mise en scene of him being surrounded in his music.

The eye contact is not looking at the camera, you can feel the haziness and drunkenness from their eye contact. This adds to the mise en scene of dance music have close links to drink and drugs.

This photo is taken from a live event, you can tell this from the blurry background and the casual clothing and pose.

The colours are bright with a high contrast, suggesting they are at a party or club. Their clothing is not matching the colour of theme, there is no real colour theme. Which is a common theme with photos taken from live events.

The photo is close up and the people are the main focus point, they take up almost all of the frame.

One of the girls has a drink in her hand, which again adds to the mise en scene of electronic dance music being linked with alcohol.

I have found a common theme of front cover photos is that they are posed and set up, where as photos like this from inside the magazine are taken from live events.
