History of hip hop:

Hip hop first began in the south of the Bronx in New York among the black and Latino community. DJ Kool Herc is credited as being one of the founder members to hip hop as growing up in Jamaica as a teenager he witnessed poetry being spoken over music which is what he used as a basis when developing his idea of hip hop.

This genre of music began to occur in the poorest quarters of new York but it was not known as hip hop at this time and wouldn’t be called Hip Hop until a few years later. As the years progressed New York had a big influence of hip hop and through the use of break dancing, beat boxing and some gangs influenced and shaped hip hop into what we now know of it today.

Style Of Hip Hop:

A style within the hip hop genre is fashion and clothing, artists within this genre tend to wear hoodie’s as stereotypically this type of clothing is worn by male’s people from a working class background and by the artist’s wearing similar clothing it may relate to them and cause they to listen to their music and buy their CD’s or albums. The colours of the hoodie’s that artist wear are mainly bright colours in order to attract the audience, make them more noticeable towards the audience and makes the artist seem more stylish.

Furthermore, there is a lot of jewellery hip hop artist use in order to show their wealth and status which is done to make them appear rich and successful and emotionally manipulates the target audience into thinking that if they buy their albums and listen to their music they too can have these qualities.

Artists have very short haircuts and some have beards which are trimmed, this makes the artists have a more masculine and serious approach which will lead the audience to wanting to buy the artist music.
