Audience research conclusions
• From the results I see that 53.12% of the results answered were by males and 46.88% were by females. This means I should target my magazine more towards males
From the results, I see that the overwhelming majority (87.10%) of the people who answered the survey were ages 16-21 While the other values are much lower.
This means I should target my rock magazine towards them
Peoples favourite artists all vary on this question, however a large percentage of these are rock bands which helps when deciding which bands to include.
This means I should include mostly rock bands in my magazine
• When asking what bands people did not enjoy the music of I found that a large percentage of these answers were the names of Pop bands rather than Rock
• This shows me that I shouldn’t include any pop bands in my magazine.
When asking what words people associated with rock music I found that the words
LoudDrumsAnger/AggressiveHeavy
Were most commonly used.
This shows that I should try and include these words in my magazine to make the genre of it clearer for the readers.
• When asking what colour people associate with Rock
• Black was the most common with 68.75% of the votes but red was behind with 28.12% of the votes
• This shows that Black should be a common colour in my magazine to get people to associate the genre with Rock
• When asking how often people buy music magazines 74.19% said that they never have however people on other have answered saying that they but it randomly or once every three months or a year
• This means that I should make my publication to Monthly if people only buy it at random times during the year to make it relevant to them.
Most people have stated that the band featured on the cover (Main image) is what draws them to purchase the magazine.
From this I will make my main image stand out on the page
• The majority of the people (38.71%) of people buy albums once a month.
• Some of the answers from other suggest that it only occurs once or twice a year and for others its completely random.
• This shows me that album reviews are not a priority however it should still be used as people still answered that they do.
46.43% of the audience never go to gigs however the other 35% and 17.86% go either once a month or a couple of times a year.
This shows me that gig reviews and news should be used in moderation as it is not something the majority of people do.
Most of the people said that they would want 50-60 pages in a rock magazine. (21.88%)
This shows me that I should use this as a guideline when deciding how many pages I should use and that it should be somewhere from 50-60
• The majority of the people (43.75%) would pay £2.51 to £3.50 for a rock magazine.
• This shows me that I should use this price as a guideline when creating my own magazine and set it to something between these values.
• The majority of the people on this question have answered that they like the Interviews with bands and exclusive articles with bands
• From this I will ensure to use interviews with bands and make them exclusive to my magazine.
The majority of people have said that they dislike rock magazines as them seem cluttered and that they do not have enough pages
From this I will ensure that my magazine is clearly structured and use enough pages 50-60 for the price paid.
• From the results, I can see that Radio and the internet were the most popular answers to the question of where they find about new artists from.
• This shows that if I advertise, the internet and radio would be my best options for getting the most people to find out.
• 50% of the people who answered the survey would like to hear about new and upcoming bands and 46.88% would sometimes like to hear about new bands
• This shows me that I should include information about new bands and artists in my magazine but limit it and don’t include it too often.
• 62% of the people stated that they would prefer an informal style of writing. From this I will ensure my writing is made to be informal for each article.
42.86% of people would like to receive gig tickets in a magazine and 34.69% would like a CD and 22.45% would like posters.
From this I have noted that including gig tickets in my magazine should be made a priority.
