Multiculturalism Impacts Students Teachers & Schools

Immigrants from all around the world are constantly migrating to the United States, that being said it is inevitable to avoid cultural differences in our academic life.

Rather than trying to change our cultural differences, they should be celebrated.

Multiculturalism Among Students is Natural & Inevitable

•Every year we have families that arrive to the U.S from another country seeking a better life for their children. These children then walk into the doors of their new classrooms and see themselves very different from the rest of the bodies that surround them. • In a k-12 setting it is very common to find that not every student is from the same cultural background. As teachers, we must make sure to be critically conscious educators and create an environment in which all students from any race, gender, sexual orientation, ability and disability, socioeconomic status, religion, language or national origin can all coexist (Nguyen CC9K1).•We are the bridge between one culture and the other, and we must be prepared to bring those two cultures together so that they can face the world with open minds and hearts.

Multiculturalism Among Teachers is Natural & Inevitable

Based on my own experience, it is very common to find teachers from all types of national origin in today's time.

White Caucasian females are predominantly seen through out the world, but seeing male teachers or female teachers from various cultures is slowly becoming the norm.

Any cultural differences seen among teachers should be celebrated and seen positively between them as they too are teaching their students to celebrate the differences between their peers.

How Multiculturalism Impacts Schools

Multiculturalism impacts schools by the different cultures between students, teachers and all other workers within the school.

Bodies from all races, gender, sexual orientation, health, language, origin, socioeconomic status and religion are seen throughout many schools.

Schools that have various cultures within them are seen positively through parents and students eyes. It definitely says a lot of the school when you have so many different cultures involved.

Having various cultures in schools will raise awareness to problems going on in specific countries, or create clubs and organizations in which one can be educated about a certain race or culture.

Reflection

As a future Educator, incorporating Multicultural Education in a class room is pivotal. Future educators must take reasonable precautions to distinguish between personal views and those of any educational institution or organization with which the individual is affiliated (FEAP 6). We must be prepared to teach our students that it’s okay to bump heads with each other as long as each person listens to what the other has to say. Differences are inevitable and absolutely natural and they must be celebrated in order to create affective relationships with each other.
