Mast Head• I went through many different

ideas of how I would make my mast head. I thought about it having different back grounds and different type phases and even different font colours. I came up with a couple that I liked and the chose one to use. After using this in my magazine cover I decided I didn’t think it fitted well enough with my cover so I changed it again.

• I began By choosing Type phases and colours.

• After I had chosen the colour and Type Phases I began thinking how I could make it look more like a head mast. This is when I started putting pictures in the background like balloons and streamers to represent a party:

• I used type phase 5 (as seen on the previous slide) this is a mixture between the font of Bauhaus 93 and Giddyup Std to createPop Party. I decided to use these because it gave it more of a party feel. The colour I used was like a Magenta or a dark pink.

• This is my first copy/draft of my front cover. I knew that the mast head had to be big and take up a lot of space, but I also wanted it to be bright and colourful. This mast head couldn’t get any bigger without it looking blurry as I had attached the font to the picture and saved it as a picture.

Pop Party

• In order for me to make this bigger I had to change it. I had also decided that I no longer liked the mast head. When I had changed it I had made it a lot simpler and brighter in colour, It was also able to completely spread across most of the page. The yellow background and the bright magenta writing over the top is really eye-catching and they are also stereotypically girl colours. Since this is a girls magazine, girls should see sooner as its bright and eye-catching.

Front Cover• I based my front cover on the

magazines We Love Pop and TOTP (Top of the Pops) these are what the questionnaires came back saying I should base them on and these are also two of the main teenage girl pop magazines that are out there.

• These magazines have very busy, bright and young covers. I think mine looks more like We Love Pop but with hints of TOTP.

Page 6: AS Media Construction power point

Contents Page• The same as the front cover. I took ideas

from the two popular magazine contents pages and put them into mine. They are both very busy. Both start with a sentence that would be continued on the rest of the page. Mine starts with ‘The party starts here…’. The ‘…’ is what both pages use so the readers will read the whole contents page to know more about the “party”. They use big numbers and a lot of pink to show that it’s a girls magazine. The TOTP’s contents uses the front cover to point out what page is which story on the front cover. I didn’t have space for the numbers around it but I used the front cover on the contents page anyway.

Double Page Spread• I based my double page spread on the

double page from below. I liked the way it was set out. At first I wondered if I should be using a so much black in a girls magazine but then I saw this page and thought it looked good. I used the idea of having a big quote from one of her answers right at the top. This gets the readers to see this and want to know what context she used the quote in and what she was talking about.

• Each question and answer is in a different box, helping the audience to differentiate between Q’s and A’s, also the different colours for each should help to, so Dark pink for A’s and light pink for Q’s.

QuarkXPress

• Red: This is the tools used to do different thing on the page. The first is to move objects, the second is to create and write in text boxes and the third is used to create picture boxes and move around the picture in the actual box. Those are the three main tools I used to create my magazine pages.

• Green: This is used to change Type phase, the size of text, the colour of the text etc.

• Blue: You can add more colours here. There are three different things you can change the colour of here; the outline of the box, the text of the box and the inside of the box.

• These are the three main windows that I needed open.

Photo graphs• I ended up taking hundreds of photos in a short amount of time. I had two different

cameras set to two different settings. One had better quality/brightness and wasn’t on shutter. The other was brighter and on shutter which means when you hold down the shutter button it will take lots of pictures, so at least one of them had to be good. The main girl that I used, I got her to come in basing her look on Taylor Swift, because that’s the sort of girly Idol I was going for. I used all girls, for my teenage girl magazine. I thought about using boys because that’s something girls like; cute boys, but I changed my mind, also I needed to get the photos done and I couldn’t find anybody to do it.• The pictures I had taken, I put them all

on to the computer and sorted them all out into ones that I wouldn’t be using and the ones I might be using ‘maybes’.

• The reason for the ones I would not be using was that a lot of them were taking badly or had a bad view or the “model” was doing something, like talking, that wouldn’t have fit my magazine.

• I didn’t use all of the maybes, hence the title maybes, but I did use quite a few of them.

• You can see straight away that even some of the maybes weren’t very bright, but I could change that on photoshop.

Page 10: AS Media Construction power point

Model• I kept the model inside in front of our green screen (plain grey

screen). This allowed me to control the lighting and make it easier for me to crop them later on without having things in the background.

• As mentioned on the previous slide, I split all the photos into ‘maybes’ and ‘not using’.

• Here are some that I didn’t use:• These weren’t used because they weren’t happy like all the

stereotypical girls on pop magazines are, also she was caught at the wrong time when some of them were taken. There were a few more that were very similar to these.

Page 11: AS Media Construction power point

Props• A pop magazine is

mostly about young pop musicians. I had two props; A ukulele and a microphone. I told the model to look like she was singing into the mic. and then playing the ukulele.

• The props add just a little but more to the pictures. It allows you to see that she is a musician and an artist. She sings and plays her own music.

Page 12: AS Media Construction power point

These are other pictures that I took of other people. Otherwise my magazine would have only had one person in it an that

wouldn’t be realistic:

Photoshop• The photos that I used I photo shopped. For some of them there wasn’t much I could do. I cropped every picture that I used, whether it was just some of the picture away or the entire background so that I just had the “model”.

• RED: This is the area where I can see the different edits to the picture that I have used and have kept. You can’t do anything to the original copy so you have to copy the background edit the copies and put them all together at the end.

• YELLOW: This is where you can adjust everything including the contrast and brightness. In this picture I only changed the exposure. In other pictures I changed the brightness and contrast slightly.

• GREEN: This is the tools that can be used. I used the two circled mostly because one allows you to select and crop out and the other lets you rub out and create finer edges so the picture looks smoother.

Page 14: AS Media Construction power point

Before and AfterAfter: • I cropped out the entire

background, changed the contrast and the brightness so now it looks a lot better.

Before:• When I first took this

picture I could see that It wasn’t very bright and I also didn’t want the stuff in the background.
