This digipak was used for the single release of Bruno Mars’ When I Was Your Man. Therefore, we see a cohesive style in both the cover used for this single and that of the album. Furthermore, the style of this single is similar to that used for the album’s lead single ‘Locked Out Of Heaven’ and the single that followed this one, ‘Gorilla’.

The cream and ‘burnt red’ colour scheme matches the retro theme that Mars clearly aimed to create when he released his album. This is evident in the album’s title ‘Unorthodox Jukebox’, as a jukebox is intrinsically linked to retro style and culture. Also, the use of the small, square picture in the centre of the front cover is reminiscent of a polaroid picture, another intrinsically retro element. The artist is featured in the picture. This is

unusual for Bruno Mars, as he is not normally pictured on his album and single covers. The shot depicts Mars in a fedora hat. This styling is known to be his trademark, and therefore this effectively promotes the song and the artist’s ‘brand’. Moreover, as Mars does not normally feature on his covers, it could suggest that this song holds specific meaning to him.
