have gained the trust of this dynamic young
leader, who opt to join our organization to make
the impact of creating positive change, even
bigger.
Money Laundering Money Laundering was the topic of the night during our one-hour seminar
session. It was without any doubt another interesting subject given by member
Naesha Zunder. She was the next member in-line who grabbed the opportunity
with both hands to share her knowledge with fellow members through an
“Empty Your Cup” session.

“We are ONE” campaign is to merely publicize
in a creative and illustrative manner our values
and how the involvement of the community
makes it possible to create an even bigger
impact. This movement covers the following
aspects:
To publicize different pictures of JCI UC
that reflects each one of our values.
To embrace non-members that volunteers
into one or more of our projects.
To show gratitude to small and big
donations from people and companies.
The campaign started in the month of July
2015. Since then we have covered the two first
sentence of our values. In July we started with:
“We believe that faith in God gives meaning
and purpose to human life.” In August we
focused on the second line stating: “The
brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty
of nations.”
For each month we conducted an activity in
combination with the pictures. In the first
month we invited pastor Raimy of House of
Worship to bless the organization by sharing
some inspiring and encouraging words. During
the second month we shed lights on the many
project we have realized in the past, thanks
team efforts of all UC members. Hence we have
included a special page dedicated to each
project we had until now. (Read page 6)

The greatest power lies in the brotherhood of man, only by joining forces will we create a positive
change in our personal lives, community and around the world.
This organization shall refrain from sectarian or religious activities. The concept of “God” in the context
of the JCI Creed is to be interpreted according to one’s own religious belief.

The session of this month was booked for our newly acquainted collaborator, Curaçao
Tourist Board (CTB).
CTB was well represented by Ms. Raquel Trenidad and Mr. Dino Daal. Both have many
experience working at CTB. The duo gave an amplified presentation about the development
of tourism of Curaçao over the last eight years as well as the challenges the organization
faces. The enduring growth in this sector inflicts at times drastic changes that requires
creative thinking solutions to solve the numerous dilemmas that once did not exist but now
does occur.

JCI UC’s Family Day Cookout
JCI UC’s Family Day Cookout was organized for
the second consecutive time. Thanks to the
committee members (Member: J.Krips,
M.Smith, R.Martis, and S.Welvaart) whom
worked hard to realize this day, relatives of UC
members had a chance to bond even more with
their loved ones and fellow members.
It was certainly a super fun day. Two groups
were formed (male VS female) and were given
a basket with secret ingredients. Both groups
had to prepare lunch by using only what was in
their basket. The ladies prepared Hawaiian
chicken while the gentlemen cooked stew
meat. During the cooking challenge, longtime
member Roxanne Martis served
mouthwatering fried fishes for appetizer. To
keep it short this day was a SUCCESSFUL day
with the FAMILY.
In collaboration with Curaçao Tourist Board
we of JCI United Citizens of Curaçao had the
pleasure to be part of the project: The
Golden Voice of Tourism Youth Congress.
A discussion competition were local
youngsters aged 14-17 can share their ideas
and thoughts in the tourism sector.
The Golden Voice of Tourism Youth
Congress competition took place in the first
week of September. All participants partook
in two rounds in which three topics were
presented together with one mystery topic.
The topics from which the candidates could
have chosen are:
Voluntourism
Greening Events in Tourism
Filmed Induced Tourism
We are extremely happy to announce the
winner, Johannah Rosaria, a young dynamic,
joyful, and courageous lady. Upcoming
October 23rd, 2015 she will be representing
Curaçao at the Caribbean Tourism Congress.
Mr. Danny Evers, Managing Director at I AM
Recruitment Services & Solutions, did it once
again! He managed without much effort to
exceed our expectations once more and
make the four-hour-session look like a lot
shorter.
The training was held on a Saturday
afternoon, to be precise, on July 18th, 2015 at
the: I AM training facility located in Saliña.
We had approximately ten participants. Each
one of them open up about their own day-to-
day challenges regarding planning and
prioritizing their life and work/business
activities. Danny discussed many aspects that
should be taken into account in order to be
more productive. He spoke about among
others, stress management, mind mapping
and showed an inspiring video called Jar of Life.
We are very thankful to all who attended this
training, you guys made the learning
experience even more interesting. Stay tuned

2015 JCI UC Teambuilding Weekend
18-19-20 September 15
D&I Business Support Services.
JCI UC’s WEEKEND TEAMBUILDING
Last weekend starting from Friday – September 18th, members of JCI UC attended for the second year JCI UC’s Weekend Teambuilding event at Bandabou. The committee consisted of:
Member Naesha Zunder
Member Melwin Smith
Member Shanto Quirindongo
Member Jo-Anne Krips
Treasurer Luigi Louisa
VP Shurlette Connor
VP Vanja Wanga
The three days event aim was solely to
strengthen the bond between members.
The organization really values the
contribution of each member. Without the
hands-on attitude of our members it would
have been very difficult to realize and
finalize our projects with great success.
Furthermore, we know how intense it may
become throughout a project period and
the many challenges one may have to face.
Hence, it is very important to organize at
least once a year teambuilding sessions
where members can have a chance to know
each other a little bit better. In order to be
more understanding when working in
teams in forthcoming projects.

As we are reaching the end of another
exceptional calendar year, we would like to
take a moment to look back at all of the
milestones achieved throughout the years. We
have been in touch with several past project
leaders who were open to share with us their
experience directing a project. I hope you do
enjoy reading these unique and inspiring
thoughts as much as we did.
2015 Treasurer Luigi Louisa
“I had the opportunity to direct two projects.
Both times were projects for fundraisings.
During the first one namely, JCI UC Breakfast
Extravaganza, I was a little bit afraid that
things may get out of control since it was my
very first time directing a project. We had to do
groceries, preparation, and packaging work. I
had to plan how we were supposed to complete
these tasks. However, I chose not to ask anyone
for help and thought I could have done all of the
work by myself. Nevertheless, the workload was
heavier than expected. Fortunately, member
offered willingly assistance with all of the
activities and made the process faster and fun.
Learned Lesson: It’s okay to accept a helping
hand and trust that the person will do a good
job. In regards to my second project, JCI UC
Health Awareness Day, leading was a lot easier
and practical this time. The objective of the
event was to provide participants with a
workout (CrossFit Willemstad), a lecture
(Rachna Blom), and a healthy breakfast
(Sophros). I had assembled a team to help me
out. We had an upright teamwork from the
start. I was able to improve my delegating skills,
and it turned out better than what I have
expected. After we had our plan of action in
place, we contacted potential sponsors and
partners, and made the necessary agreements.
On the day of the event the committee was glad
that all UC members showed up to support and
help out with the program. What is even more
satisfying is that all participants enjoyed the
day and are eager for a second one. Our
partners also did an excellent job which
certainly contributed to the totality of the day.
On the event date all members were
involved with all the final touches and sale of
some tickets. That evening when we received
the boat it was literally all hands on deck to
finish decoration on time. The party turned
out to be even better than expected with a
very engaged crowd and energetic
entertainment. We had no other choice but
to supply the growing the demand for a
repetition. Pirates of the Caribbean was the
concept of the second improved boat party,
which made it much easier than the first boat
party and more members available to sell
tickets. The result were as expected a
bigger better fun filled boat party. Satisfied
customers left the boat with a night to
remember. Now the only question left is will
there be a tree peat of this party by the JCI
UC? Well that is the million dollar question.
Member Shurlette Connor
“As director of 2013 National Convention I
have certainly learned a few golden keys that
one could implement in order to direct a
successful project as well as some areas of
opportunities for personal development.
Golden Keys to a successful project
- Communication ~ communicate to the
committee and inform others on the
development of the project.
- Commitment ~ Commit to do the assigned
task as agreed
- Delegate ~ As project leader you should be
able to delegate tasks
- Teamwork ~ Others active input is very
important
Opportunities:
- Leadership ~ Increase leadership skills
- Planning & Execution ~ Learning to plan and
execute the project properly
- Public speaking ~ Work on the ability to
speak in front of public
- Networking ~ Get the opportunity to
network with others”
We hope you enjoyed the behind the scenes
with our past project leaders. The results of
our projects truly shows the degree of
impact we as organization have created out
there. Hence we will continuously shed lights
on our projects, and the individuals behind it.
Member Naesha Zunder
“Feria di Konosementu. I was assigned as the
Project Director of this project. At the start I
hesitated to take this challenge as it was a
little intimidating. After speaking with Ms.
Silvetty de la Paz who was the Board member
in charge of this project, she motivated me to
take on this challenge through her words of
wisdom and encouragement, her helpful tips
and great support. By leading this project I
learned how important it is to get to know
the individuals you work with in order to
ensure that the duties and responsibilities for
the project are assigned to the right person.
Along the way I encountered some obstacles,
but I now see that they also contribute to the
learning experience. At the end of the day as
a team we all were aiming for the same
result which was to have a Successful Project.
We knew we achieved this by the smile on
the face of the participants and the words of
gratitude and positive feedback received. It
took a lot of patience, perseverance and
determination, but now I can look back with
proud to yet another achievement on my
road of Personal Growth.”
Member Shamir Welvaart
“The JCI UC Boat Party started with this one
brilliant idea: let’s organize a party that is
different. After brain storming we came to the
idea of taking on the boat party concept and
make it A JCI UC out of the ordinary party. We
selected a date near the queen’s date and
created a concept around this
event, Kings and Queens boat party. First and
most important was to find the right boat for
this party. We went shopping and found that
the Miss Ann was our best option. However
the price was higher than we expected which
was a factor that pushed us to be even more
creative and resourceful. Considering the
large pool of DJ's choosing just one can be a
hard task we chose to go with our gut and
chose for DJ Atley which turned to be a great
success, here after he hosted various other JCI
events. Part of being resourceful was selling
tickets with only free advertising through our
members which resulted to have some
challenges. The members reached out to
friends, colleagues and fellow JCI members
with this great new concept of a boat party.
