JCI UC’s Health Awareness Day

2015 JCI Conference of the Americas

May 2015 UPCOMING EVENTS

Introduction Dear guest, members, and senators,

By means of this newsletter we would like to share

with you all that the organization of JCI UC has been

and will be doing throughout the course of this year.

This is the third edition of our bulletin named after

U-C US, which is a combination of our name and

slogan “JCI U-C US CREATING POSITIVE CHANGE. It is

the intention to distribute a newssheet on a bi-

monthly basis. In case you missed out one of our

events, meetings, or trainings you will be able to

easily catch up thanks to this new initiative.

This year is another great opportunity to continue

with the JCI movement by creating even greater

impact within our community, as well as

internationally, and hopefully around the world.

Hence we cannot stop investing in ourselves. To

become day by day a better leader than yesterday

we certainly believe that one must:

LEARN AND LEAD

Vision

To be the leading global network of young active

citizens.

Mission

To provide development opportunities that

empower young people to create positive change.

Values

We believe…

That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to

human life,

That the brotherhood of man transcends the

sovereignty of nations,

That economic justice can best be won by free men

through free enterprise,

That government should be of laws rather than of

men,

That earth’s great treasure lies in human

personality,

And that service to humanity is the best work of life.

“Leaders become great, not by their

power. But because of their ability

to empower others.”

On this pleasant evening we had the pleasure

of having our 2015 IPP Melissa Corea as the

second member of JCI UC in the Empty Your Cup

Session. Melissa talked broadly about how to

MAKE UP YOUR SOUL and the importance of

maintaining balance between one’s body,

spirit, and mind. It was remarkable how she did

inspire most of the souls present to take a

deeper look at life as well as the inner self.

group of friends or at work you can contact her

GMM March 2015 On the 26th of March, 2015 we held our third

General Membership Meeting for this calendar

year. The White Room at Floris Suite Hotel was

neatly set up for the occasion. Each board

member presented their board reports

accordingly indicating the events of current and

upcoming month.

After the project report of Manera mi Bos, No

tin Dos the meeting took an interesting turn

when the following motion was presented by

member Jayleesa Jacobus, and seconded by

member Roxanne Martis-Martina:

“I hereby move, that the project Manera mi

bos no tin dos” to be included in the Plan of

Action of JCI UC for the upcoming three years;

2016, 2017, 2018.”

Immediately afterwards member Shamir

Welvaart presented an amendment to the

motion, stating:

“I would like to amend, that this motion be

executed if a Strategic Partner is present that

contributes funds.”

The amendment was dismissed with three

votes in favor and ten against while the motion

was approved by 12 votes in favor and 1

abstained vote.

It was surely a well conducted meeting by the

Board of Directors chaired by our dear Madam

President, Silvetty de la Paz.

During the days of 9-12 of April 2015, VP

in charge with JCI UC and JCI IOBA made

her official visit. She spent her time equally

with both local organizations. As for JCI UC

there was a board meeting held on Friday

- April 10, 2015. The Board was able to

attain valuable information and

suggestions on how to improve the

running of the organization to its fullest

considering the growth over the years by

the number of members. Moreover, we

had a combined training session and a

social event where the other members

also had the opportunity to interact with

VP Rosetna Martinus. 2015 Junior Chamber International Vice

President Adam Bonarek has been a member of

JCI Michigan, USA since 2002, and has held

multiple roles at the local, state, and national

levels, including as Chief of Staff and Executive

Vice President for JCI Michigan, overseeing

over 1,000 members and 40 chapters. In 2013,

he returned to the local level to serve as

president, and was recognized as one of the

Top 10 Presidents in the USA (out of over 800),

and his home chapter was recognized as the #4

Chapter in the Nation in recognition for their

efforts.

On the 16th of April 2015 the Board had an

amazing opportunity to sit down with Adam

and discussed matters that are of true essence

to JCI UC. During this meeting VP Shurlette

Connor and IPP Melissa Corea promptly

represented the Board of Directors by handling

the following points:

The meeting structure

Recruitment process

JCI UC Constitution & Bylaws

VP Rosetna Martinus

VP Adam Bonarek

VP Rosetna Martinus (JCI YALA)

MANERA MI BOS NO TIN DOS has endure for

seven months of intense training and

workshops with the collaboration of our

partners, Fundashon KPEK, Biblioteka

Nashonal Kòrsou, and Toastmasters

International.

On Friday March 20th and Saturday 21st

2015, the participants finally reached to the

point where they had to put in practice

everything they have learned. With an

audience of more or less 60 people these

youngsters shown how they have truly

overcome the barrier to speak in front of an

audience and express themselves based on

facts and good argumentation. We are proud

to recognize the absolute winning group

consisting of Kennen Fullinck, Nerija

Montroos, and Emile Samsom. The group of

Dudley Bodak, Otis van Varsseveld, and

Oliver Kerindongo finished second place.

JCI UC Game Night

Besides the hard work put in our projects and

the execution of our plan of action it is vital to

remain connected to one another as a member.

We are very thankful to VP Shurlette Connor

and IPP Melissa Corea for the job well done

with organizing this event. It was definitely an

effective teambuilding night. We were divided

into smaller groups for each game, this made it

even better, since each member had the

chance to work as a team with different

members.

Everyone present enjoyed the night and are

surely looking forward to more of these type of

events.

JCI UC “Manera mi bos, no tin dos!”

We had our first fundraising on Sunday –

March 29, 2015. We are referring to the UC

Breakfast well thought-out by our Treasurer

Luigi Louisa. He made a marvelous job by

making this project successful and profitable.

Of course we do appreciate all of the other

members who contributed to the success of

this event. It is due to your efforts that we can

continue to run this organization and

continue with our projects.

For the record we sold tickets! WOW,

isn’t that amazing???

In the meanwhile we had our third Empty

your Cup Session given by member Shamir

Welvaart. As known over the years Shamir has

been quite a bartender during our social

events for small and bigger events. He has

become an expert thanks to his many years of

experience working as a bartender. With that

being said, it was a must to let the master

share his secret with us.

In our ONE HOUR SEMINAR we had the expert

of mortgage, Centrale Hypotheek Bank (CHB) in

house represented by Antoinette Leal.

She provided the latest insight concerning

mortgage and provided in depth information

about all the required steps that one must go

through in order to be eligible for a loan.

The assembly was very interactive during the

session and by the end most of us had a clearer

view of what to do or not do in the process to

buy or construct our dream house based on

each one’s personal budget.

GMM April 2015 On the 30th of April 2015 we had our fourth

General Membership Meeting at Floris Suite

Hotel in their prestigious White Room.

It was another interesting evening that we

were able to share with seven guests. Board

members were able to inform the assembly

about many important upcoming events. Such

as, the JCI Mid-Year-Meeting, our next

fundraising JCI UC Health Awareness Day, and

Feria di Konesementu.

Mid Year Meeting

We have a total of 8 members going to

Oranjestad, Aruba in June on the 25th and 28th

in order to attend the annual Mid Year

representatives going to a national event and

we all are looking forward to it.

JCI UC Health Awareness Day

In regards to our 100 YEAR CELEBRATION project

we took the initiative to organize a health

awareness day. This day consists of a

workshop given by a well-known nutritionist

and a training session by licensed crossfit

trainers. Date of the event is Saturday – June

6th, 2015. Ticket are available at all members

After the Leadership and Development

Academy in Atlanta in January 2015, Madam

President took off to her next destination to

Bolivia, Cochabamba.

2015 President Silvetty de la Paz was

accompanied on May 17th, 2015 by 2015

Secretary Nashantara Römer to attend the JCI

Conferences of the Americas. We know for sure

that JCI UC will be properly represented by

these two ladies. And we acknowledge this

opportunity as another learning experience for

the organization. If you recall we have

mentioned in our previous newsletter that we

will not only continue to grow by quantity but

also by quality. That being said, we are certain

that all of the members of UC will be exposed

to abundant knowledge, valuable tips, and

experience gained by Silvetty and Nashantara

once they are back.

We are happy to hear about our fellow

members of JCI IOBA who have taken their

career in JCI to another level by taking the

challenge to give trainings at this big event. We

are referring to the following members:

JCI Dutch Caribbean GLC, Andre Palm

JCI IOBA VP, Elton Villareal

JCI IOBA EVP, Sueena Francisco

Sueena starts on May 21st, 2015 with her

session – YOUR WISH IS YOUR COMMAND. Followed

by Andre who will be given THE BETTER ME on

May 22th, 2015. Elton will present his FAMOUS NO

MORE CRUMB BUT BREAD! training on May 22nd,

2015. As we remain pending for more details

about the upcoming area conference, we want

to share with you that we have registered three

award entry, including Manera MI Bos No Tin

Dos.
