Most residents ofTripura are involved in agriculture and alliedactivities, although service sector is thelargest contributor to the state's grossdomestic product. Forests cover more thanhalf the area, and provide remarkablebiodiversity for a small state and also asource of livelihood for many tribes.Scheduled tribes are about 30% of thepopulation in which Kokborok-speakingTripuri people is the major tribe; Bengalipeople form the ethno-linguistic majority. The mainstream Indian cultural elementsled by Bengali culture coexist with tribaltraditional practices.
