October is FBC’s month to stock and volunteer at
The Christian Community Cupboard.
October is now four weeks away. If we prepare in September,
we will be fully stocked to serve those in our community!
Please begin considering how your family can assist others in need this
year — by serving, supplying staple food items, or through financial
support. Additional contributions in September will help us to meet the
financial needs of the Cupboard in October. Be watching for facts
throughout September about the Cupboard. Talk with your family…
Teach your children the importance of helping those in need.
DID YOU KNOW?
The Cupboard receives funding from various churches in the area,
donations from businesses and community organizations, and from many
individuals. Vital support is also provided by a variety of schools, clubs, and
scouting organizations that conduct drives for food and other items.
In 2014, the Cupboard served 3,371 families or 11,015 individuals over the
course of the year. The vast majority of clients served were returning
clients. And 198 new families accessed the Cupboard in 2014.
Slightly more than half (54%) of the individuals benefitting from food
distribution were adults; 31% were children; 15% were seniors (60+)
The Cupboard is
located in Hurricane,
at 2843 Virginia Avenue
adjacent to the back
parking lot of Forrest
Burdette Memorial
United Methodist
Church.

Labor Day … hope each of you find time to
enjoy a holiday from labor.
What a timely opportunity for a
reminder from God’s Word …
taking time to rest.
If we take seriously God’s
commands about adultery,
coveting, stealing, lying, and
idolatry, we also should take
him seriously when it comes to
practicing Sabbath.
With today’s availability of
technology, sunset is no longer
a boundary for us. We can
work around the clock and
stay plugged in and engaged
24/7. But just because we can
doesn’t mean we should.*
STOP Put productivity on hold for
twenty-four hours.
REST For some of us the most
spiritual thing we can do is
take a nap.
DELIGHT Isaiah 58 talks about enjoying
and delighting in Sabbath.
Sabbath is a day to enjoy
what God has created.
CONTEMPLATE Take time to “be” with God.
The seventh day is a
Sabbath “to the Lord.”
