Summer Salary Lunch and Learn

Who Receives Summer Salary Summer salary is payment for
work completed during the summer months.
Time period is considered to start the first day
following spring commencement and end the
day before the fall semester begins.
Only nine-month faculty are eligible for
for summer salary. Such compensation falls
into two categories: pay for summer school
instruction and summer pay for research and
instructional activities unrelated to summer
school.
How Much Salary Can Be Paid
• Total summer salary is limited to one third of faculty
member’s nine-month base salary (excluding
administrative supplements).
• Amount paid on a monthly basis is limited to the
faculty member’s daily rate times the number of
workdays in the month.
How Is Summer Salary Calculated
Summer salary should be calculated using the summer salary calculator located on College of Arts and Sciences website.
The faculty member’s nine-month base salary (excluding administrative supplements) is required to be entered.
Beginning date - Enter the day following spring commencement.
Ending date - Enter the day before classes begin for the fall semester.
Monthly limit - Summer salary calculator will automatically populate the daily rate and total allowed be paid for each month.
Total limit - Summer salary paid cannot exceed the maximum amount that can be earned per the summer salary calculator. An exception to this policy is amounts earned after July 1st
each year can be increased if there is a salary increase.

How Does The Faculty Member Receive Summer Salary
Departments Within The Business Center
• Enter a RASR request for a Lump Sum Payment EPAR be processed
• Make sure to include all pertinent information such as faculty member name, PID and amount to be paid
Departments Outside the Business Center
• Go into the HR Work Center in Connect Carolina
• Enter a Lump Sum Payment EPAR for the faculty member to be paid
• Make sure you have the employee name and PID, Home Department and Chartfield String to be used
• When selecting appointment number, always select “0”
• Choose Summer Salary as reason code
• Effective date must be the first day of the month in which the payment is to be made
• Add to comments: the number of days worked, the daily rate and the work performed
• Attach a copy of the completed Summer Salary Calculator and other supporting documentation.
• Submit EPAR for approval before the departmental deadline on the monthly lockout calendar
