MULTIPLE CHOICE is KING
Grading policies
*66.7% of a student’s grade is based on standards-based multiple choice tests. (Honors is nearly the same.)
*Students must know the SWBAT’s, and must be able to demonstrate their knowledge of them on multiple choice tests.
*When doing bookwork, students should consider that the main reason they are doing the work is to master the SWBAT’s so that they can do well on tests. Bookwork itself is no longer given points in Mr. Barnes’ class!
*Mr. Barnes’ main instructional goal is to prepare all students to do well on the California Standards Test (CST). Therefore . . .
*To earn the right to take re-take a test, the student must show reading notes and section assessment answers for every textbook section covered by the test in question. Subsequent re-takes require evidence of Quiz Show, tutoring, chatper assessment answers, or something else.
Grading policies
INFINITE RE-TAKES
*Re-takes must occur after school or during lunch. Check with Mr. Barnes to make sure he’ll be in the room on the day you want to do a re-take. (Office hours coming up on next slide . . . )
*Mr. Barnes multi-versions his tests like crazy, so when a student re-takes a test, the questions are not going to be exactly the same. Therefore, memorizing a list of answers will do you no good. You have to really LEARN the subject matter, or your re-take score will not increase.
*Before re-taking a test, do one or more of the following:*Study the appropriate chapter(s) in the book.*Get tutoring (TBA . . . Will be posted on Barnes’ storeroom door).*Use Quiz Show to practice.

If HHS’s tutoring program isn’t enough . . .
http://www.sbut.org/tutorprogram.htm
These are credentialed teachers who work in the south bay area. They’re not free, and the teacher you need might not service your area, but it’s certainly worth a shot.
Maybe when money isn’t so tight, maybe we’ll get some more free tutoring programs back in service.
Mr. Barnes does not tutor this year. Sorry.
If you must contact me by phone, please call the school secretary.
(310) 263 - 4402
She’ll leave a note in my mailbox and I’ll get back to you that day or the next day.
NOTE: I answer notes the secretary leaves in my box, but
I don’t monitor my voicemail!
Parents!
wwwI’m much better with e-mail than the phone.
