Dear Prairie View Families:
Happy Labor Day Weekend!
Thank you for all you do to support your child’s education. It has
been a busy week at
Prairie View. Students have been learning classroom routines,
understanding classroom
expectations, reading many great books, and solving mathematic
problems. While we
look forward to September, we will be publishing a newsletter twice
a month, and I will
be sharing Dr. Schreiber’s News on the additional weeks. Please
remember school will
be closed on Monday, September 3, 2018.
Please join us for our first PTO fundraising night at Culver’s on
Tuesday, September 4
from 5:00-8:00pm. In addition, we have a new PTO sponsored event on
Friday,
September 21, 2018 at 6:30pm, our Family Food Truck Night at
Prairie View.
Prairie View Grade School is on Twitter, please follow us
@301PVGS
We wish you a wonderful weekend. Thank you for all you do to
support Prairie View Grade School.
Greatness Starts at Prairie View!
In Partnership,
Dr. Jill Schreiber
For the safety of the students and staff in the building, all
visitors, including parents and volunteers, are required to enter
through the office and sign in. To be buzzed into the office you
will need to push the buzz-er located on the wall to the right of
the office door corridor. Please do not knock on the main doors to
get students attention. We teach the students not to let anyone
in.

News from Transportation
Any change in bus transportation must be approved by the district’s
Transportation Department 847-464-6052.
Please note all busing changes require a 48 hour notice.
To access your student’s school and bus stop information, please
follow these instructions:
Step 1 – In Skyward/Family Access on each student’s profile is a
blue tab menu on the left side.
Step 2 – Select the Bus tab.
Step 3 – The student’s bus information will appear. If you have
multiple students, you can select to view
them all or individually.
If you need to make a change in your child’s transportation, please
go to the Transportation Department website
to obtain a STI form (Student Transportation Information). Once the
form is complete, submit it to the
transportation office for processing either by email to
[email protected] or fax 847-464-6051. You will
receive an email verifying if the request has been granted.
Students are not allowed to ride any bus other than
the one to which they are assigned. If there is an emergency, and
it is necessary for your child to take a different
bus for child care reasons, this must be preapproved by the
Transportation Department by calling: 847-464-6052.
Student Transportation Information
All students who reside outside of the walking boundaries (greater
than 1.5 miles from school) are assigned District 301
transportation to/from school using their home location to
designate the bus assignment.
Please complete this form ONLY if you require busing to/from an
alternate location within your attending school’s
boundaries, if you do not require 301 transportation, or if you are
making a change to your child’s transportation. Students
are allowed only one inbound bus and only one outbound bus.
(Accommodations cannot be made for different buses on
different days.) Please allow up to 48 hours to process any changes
to your student’s transportation. To verify the request

Communication with your Child’s Teacher & Office Staff Your
child’s teacher & office staff needs a written note or e-mail
if your child is…
A bus rider and they are not riding the bus home
Going to be picked up by someone else- please indication who will
be picking them up
Going to be taken out of school earlier than the scheduled
dismissal time-please indicate
the time of pick up and the reason.
Please send an email to your child’s teacher including the office
staff, if your child is going
to have a change in their usual form of transportation home. Be
sure to include the child’s
first and last name in the note. The office cannot accommodate
phone calls to change a
child’s transportation routine after 2:30pm. (With the exception of
a real emergency).
Teachers may not have time to check their email before dismissal,
so we ask that all
changes be made through the office to ensure the students’ safe
delivery home.
If you are collecting your child during the school hours or at the
end of the day. It is
important to notify the teacher and the school office. Due to the
office preparing for the
end of our day we ask that your child be collected in the school
office no later than
3:00pm. If you are collecting your child at the end of the school
day, you may meet your
child at the South entrance (cafeteria) at 3:30. If the teacher and
the office has not been
notified with any changes, your child will be released according to
their original schedule.
Students that report to Base or a daycare facility, it is the
parents responsibility to contact
them directly if your child will not be attending.
News from the Prairie View Library
Brand New Year! The PV Library is ready to get nooks in your
student’s hands! Please keep
in mind a few expectations for your student:
Books must be returned EVERY week! Even if they are renewing a book
they would like to
finish reading.
All Early Childhood, Kindergarten and First Graders will check out
one book a week. If
they forget their book, they will be unable to check out
another.
All Second throughFifth grades check out two books a week and their
accounts are
monitored appropriately to make sure they are turning in all books
or renewing
books. I am also looking for any parents who would like to come and
volunteer in the library. I have
various opportunities that help make the library a special place
for reading. If you are
interested, please email me.
I’m glad to be serving your students again this year.
Happy Reading!

Central Community Unit School District 301 will destroy special
education records from school years
2012- 13 and prior to students who graduated, transferred, or
otherwise permanently withdrew from
special education services.
Special education records may include reports of psychological and
social work evaluations,
multidisciplinary planning conferences, annual reviews, copies of
Individual Education Programs and other
relevant information.
If a parent or student wants those records, they should call the
student Support Services & Special
Education Office at 847-464-5863 before October 26,2018.
State law indicates that all children with qualifying disabilities
between birth and the age of five must be provided
with programs appropriate to their needs. The school district must
offer an annual screening of these children in
order to determine need and eligibility for special education
services. Eligible children must be three years of age.
Central Community School District #301 will conduct such screenings
at Howard B. Thomas Grade School, 44W575
Plato Road, Hampshire, IL from August through March at pre-arranged
times.
The following areas are sample behaviors that might indicate that a
preschool child may be eligible for special
education services:
- Does not talk or communicate as well as others his/her age
- Is always on the fringe of activities, never really
involved
- Finds it difficult to play with other children
- Has difficulty with feeding, dressing and toileting
- Has difficulty putting together a puzzle, matching
shapes/patterns
- Has difficulty sitting still while listening to a short story or
watching television - Does not respond to verbal cues
when his/her back is turned
- Does not know names of common objects
- Cannot jump in place, appears clumsy, and/or walks into
objects
- Has difficulty riding a tricycle, catching a ball or walking up
stairs
If you notice that your child has displayed any of the above
difficulties, or if you have other concerns, please contact
Michelle Vaughn, Early Childhood Special Education Coordinator, at
847-464-5863 to arrange an Early Childhood
Screening

Evan Milbrant,a freshman at Central HS, was involved in a traumatic
pool accident on June 1 2018 that has currently left him without
movement from the waist down.
Saying that Evan is an active kid is an understatement. He
basically skipped walking and went straight to running at only 9
months old! Whether it is on the soccer field, in the football
stadium, across the track, or even through the neighborhood, Evan
has never failed to show off his speed. He has always lived up to
his common nickname of “white lightning!” #LITS

scarecrow. Stylized art will be explored through tarantula line art
and Van Gogh-inspired drawing featuring vibrant sunflowers.
Students will contin- ue with their favorite emoji’s and explore
