8th grade students have the opportunity to earn 1 high school math
credit by taking Algebra I This is designed for students who plan
to take a 5th
math class in High School In order to be eligible for Algebra I,
students must:
Be enrolled and successfully complete 7th grade Advanced Math
AND
Score Meets or Masters on the 7th grade STAAR Math test, AND
Have a minimum score of 258 on the M-STAAR, which is an
Algebra-Ready test that is given a couple of times a year to help
determine math proficiency
Elective Classes
7th grade students must take one credit of physical education
Girls’ Athletics - sports available are volleyball, basketball,
track and field
Boys’ Athletics - sports available are football, basketball, track
and field
Cross Country
There are tryouts for all sports and you must have a current
physical on file to participate in Athletics, Swim, or Cross
Country

Off campus PE is available for students who participate in an
approved sport - please review information available on the
District Website regarding this option including deadline for
applying (There is an application process and $100 payable to the
district)
Off Campus Swim is available for students who tryout (Application
process & $100 fee payable to the district with additional fee
payable to Magnolia Aquatics)
Off Campus PE is available for students who participate in an

This year, 7th and 8th grade students will have the opportunity to
take a one semester health class for high school credit - health is
an MISD graduation requirement.

MJH:
Advanced Art
Project Launch
Students selecting one of these courses will be required to
complete an Advanced Electives Application Form to be considered.
These forms will be located in the MIS Counselor’s office beginning
on 4/5/21 and due back to the Mrs. Robertson’s office by April 23,
2021
If you are not selected for one of these courses, the counselor
will look at your alternate course(s) choices
If you do not complete an application and turn it in by the
deadline, you will not be considered

SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
All 7th grade students will take 3 STAAR tests Writing, Reading,
and Math
Writing - students will be required to write a 26 line expository
essay as well as answer multiple choice questions over revising and
editing passages. Test will be given in Spring 2022
Reading - Test will be given in Spring 2022
Math - Test will be given in Spring 2022

SHOTS, SHOTS, AND MORE SHOTS
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Make sure your incoming 7th grader is up to
date on their shots.
They will NOT be able to attend 7th grade until we have the record
of the required shots on file.

Lunches are 30 minutes long (4 lunches - determined
by 5th period class)
School starts at 7:15 and ends at 2:25
Cell phone use is allowed during passing periods and at lunch.
Students must have their cell phones put away once they enter the
classroom and are not allowed to use it during class unless
otherwise specified by their teacher
