The debut of Indonesia’s first ever collec-tion of alluring modern furniture, crafts and designs will truly turn heads at this year’s NY Now 2017 at New York, USA.
Inspired by the vigorous iconography and topography of its compelling landscapes, this curated project will be beautifully displayed on a modernized, symbolic terrain. It is a celebration of Indonesia’s identity, found it its natural scenery.
“ It portrays how the country’s character is always intertwined with its evolving and modern design”, said Joshua Simand-juntak, Deputy of Marketing at the Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy (BEKRAF). “It is designed with a dis-tinctive personality that breathes with the contemporary lifestyle”, Joshua added.
Celebrating Indonesia’s unique creative passions has been the primary mission of the Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy. The country’s manufacturing resources have long been enjoyed world-wide, yes its status as a creative hub may have been overlooked. This year, howev-er, the Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy proudly showcases Indonesian designers, bringing forward their deep aesthetic sensibility, strong visions and exceptional creativity to the international market.
Crafted to depict Indonesia’s stunning versatility, this exhibiton features concep-tual storytelling that will both enchant and delight, showing how design in Indo-nesia is deeply rooted in “every aspect our culture”, as the curator explains, “while embracing our future”. It will give audi-
ences a new and refreshing experience by bringing Indonesia into their daily lives.
“Rarely has a design exhibit created such excitement”, he said, “ and it’s safe to say that Indonesian design is on the verge of a truly exciting future”.

CURRATORS’NOTES
This week in NY NOW , we celebrate Indonesia’s diversity. Our nation’s many cultures are its strenght and an inex-haustible source of inspiration. From the inception of the nation, our diversity has been a source of pride and unify-ing component: we do not need to all be the same to be one nation. In their exploration of contemporary Indonesian designs, artisans and designers delve into these cultures to create works that reflect the very many facets of modern Indonesia.
The cornerstone of this exhibition is to promote the different creative stories of our designers. Each have gone on a jour-ney of aesthetic discovery. Their designs are masterful reinterpretations of tradi-tional ideas and indigenous materials.

Good design goes beyond aesthetics, it draws you into a new world. Indonesia is rich with the diversity of its many cultures and has an abudance of natural resources. This is greatly to our advantage in the context of global competition. With a solid mastery of their craft, our designers and artisans contin-ue to make advances in their explorations of Indonesian contemporary design.
This week we celebrate Identities at NY Now, USA. The Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy is honoured to collaborate with Indonesian designers and creative communities. Their work delves into the nation’s cultures, and showcases the artisty and skills of our mas-ter craftmen and artisans.
A design tell a story: it can be both a journey in aesthetic discovery or an exploration of new materials. Identities are the design stories and the journeys of designers from arround Indonesia at NY Now 2017, USA. For the Indonesian Agency for Cre-ative Economy, our journey is a collaboration with creative individuals and communities who believe, like us, in great design. It embraces innova-tion and aesthetics, but also
environmental values as well as the social human values.
Identities shows the new face of Indonesian design, an active participant in the global design community. Our ultimate purpose is to support a design environment that honors aesthetic values, and its ethical considerations. This week marks a milestone in our journey, and will open doors to more creative expan-sions of our talents.

Imagine Delilah as, partly a business woman, a beautiful wife, and a mother of her own children. She starts off the day with organizing her business cards placed ready for every person she meets during her appointment. This was put in the first compartment. The next compartment, she puts in her driving license and her ID Cards, making sure to drive her children to school safely
before she starts to work. By the end of the day, grocery shopping for dinner is a must before picking up her children. Her debit, credit cards, and all her membership cards go on the last compartment. Ending the day with her daily carry all in one pouch.

Imagine Benjamin as a man with his tender-loving smile, a fine-handsome gentlemen. Benjamin feels incomplete without a leather wallet to accommodate his everyday needs such as, money and cards. One of the reason why we crafted this product is to achieve the longetivity in carrying whenever Benjamin needs
to travel to other countries. This wallet fulfills his needs to bring USD, EURO, HKD, SGD or any other big bank notes by far, he smiles without worry.
Our society has grown to a state where cards are more often used. Based on research, women tend to have a lot more cards comparing to men. Therefore we provide around 2 cards that can be filled in.
Through looking at how women use
their wallets, they like to put in their receipts after they purchased their items in a simple hassle-free way, without opening the wallet. This inspired us to add a backpocket to every long wallet we crafted.

Education Toys & Home Decor
-
www.jamooga.com
Profile
Jamooga (tm) was born from our idea and desire to produce educational toys for children that are environmentally friendly and designed in forms that are inspired by traditional Indonesian cultures.
We understand, the roll of edu-toys play in stimulating children’s motoric and cognitive abilities. Thus, edu-toys have to be designed based on collaborative ideas among children development experts and artists, to create imaginative and artistic forms that have important roles to stimu-late children’s cognitive abilities and body
functions. Not the least, edu-toys have to meet the standard of child’s safety on materials and designed forms.
Jamooga has been conducting research and development activities to meet the standard of safety. At the begining we chose some materials i.e metal, clay, and wood for our samples. We tested those materials to check the structures, strength, and hazard possibilities to children.
We finally choose woods as our basic material since they are relatively light, easy
to create forms, long lasting, and soft enough in case a child bite the wooden toys. Adding to that we choose finishing materials that are natural and free-toxic i.e bees wax and vegetable oil.
Our decision in choosing woods as basic materials also allows us to participate in re-use and recycling programs. As known there are many wood cuts that merely treated as industrial waste. We think those wood cuts can be in better use if we give added values.

Back in 1981, Maharani was involved in the silver industry, offering all kinds of products to all sorts of consumers. Fast forward to the turn of the millennium, the market saturated with one-stop desti-nations. It was becoming more apparent that diverting attention to a niche was the wiser option.
In 2009, Bali-based Maharani established a sub-division that focuses on crafts. Within four years, under the direction of Irene Setiawati and by leveraging the
resources at hand, Maharani re-emerges as Maharani Crafts, a label that focuses on creating decorative interior elements from corals and semi-precious stones. They offer household accessories including door knobs, drawer pulls, and table top ornaments ranging from napkin rings to picture frames.
