GSM-R as bearer service for ETCS L2
GSM-R
• Ensure that EVC can reach RBC, i.e. compliance with FFFIS Euroradio
• Ensure the required GSM-R Quality of Service, i.e. compliance with Subset-093
• ... and build a network designed for this

Optimization phase
What to measure• Coverage level• Quality of the signal• Interference• Handover Parameters, always checked in both directions
How to do it• Campaign of 2-3 weeks, different types of trains (160 km/h, 200 km/h, 300 km/h…)• Separated / joint / „degraded” measurement of layers• After each day, results are obtained & changes proposed in some parameters. Following day
effects of changes are checked• Parameters usually changed:
– Tilts– HO parameters– Power reduction– Frequencies– Priorities…
What to deliver• Graphical representation of the signal level and quality• Parameter - Tables with Nº of succesful HO’s, HO recreation time, HO break time…

Quality of Service (QoS) for ETCS
ERTMS/GSM-R Quality of Service Requirements for ETCS are defined in Subset-093
• Connection Establishment Delay (CED)• Connection Establishment Error Ratio (CER)• Network Registration Delay (NRD)• Transfer Delay (TD)• Transmission Interference Rate (TIR)• Connection Loss Rate (CLR)
The corresponding tests are defined in ERTMS/GSM-R Quality of Service Test Specification (O-2475)

Real ETCS-L2 tests
• CabRadio supplied by Siemens• Different GSM-R data modems used
• FWK (MT1, version 2.14)• Sagem (GPRM1)
• RBC from Ansaldo, EVC from Siemens (Madrid-Zaragoza)• Close cooperation between NSN, Ansaldo and Siemens
with the supervision of Adif• Problems fixed:
• Interworking between the RBC and the EVC• Data Losses• RBC Handovers

Setting up common „task force”
Setting up a small group of people participating on real ETCS-L2 measurements to share information: • Configuration of the network: HW, FW… NSN, signalling
vendors…• Problems / solutions found• Generating and maintaining a report describing the situation of each project
Not to re-invent the wheel in every project...
