MONTVILLE VIEWS TOGETHER WE LEARN
6th December 2018
This is the last newsletter for 2018 and I am amazed how fast the school year has gone.
We still have many things on our calendar so we can close the doors
and celebrate a successful 2018.
Thank You Volunteers
Tomorrow – Friday 6th Dec we will be hosting a Volunteers Lunch for all of our fabulous volunteers that have helped out at the school.
We are truly blessed to have such amazing support and we look forward to continuing these relationships in 2019.
Maryanne and Agarta will be cooking with the year 2/3 class to prepare the food.
Christmas Performance
On Monday some students will be attending a religious instruction excursion over at the church where there will be a performance, a craft activity and light refreshments.
A permission slip is required to attend. Any student who does not wish to attend or is without a permission slip will be able to do an alternative art activity at school.
Awards Afternoon and Graduation
On Wednesday 12 December we will be holding our 2018 awards and graduation afternoon. This event will be held in the undercover area and will commence at 1:30. Mr Andrew Powell MP, Peter Jenson from Maleny and Blackall Range Lions, John
Watson from Montville Masonic Lodge and Mr Ian Russell will be in attendance to present awards. This is a chance to celebrate a successful 2018, present awards to students from all year levels and also wish our fantastic leaders all the best as they leave Montville State School and head off to their various high schools next year. All are welcome.
2019 Stationary Lists and Student Resource Scheme
Notices informing parents and families about the resource scheme and stationary requirements for 2019 have recently gone home.
Parents are being asked to purchase stationary requirements for the classrooms and then bring them on the first day of school.
Uniform Shop
The P&C will be opening the uniform shop on Friday 25 January from 9:30 am for anyone wanting to purchase uniforms.
Focus
This year our focus has been on Reading and Community Engagement and we will continue to pursue these priorities in 2019.
On behalf of the staff and students I would like to say thank you for your support, have a safe break and I look forward to seeing all students back safe and healthy on Tuesday 29 January next year.
Regards,
Adam

From the Business Manager
What a busy term Year 5/6 have had!
English Term Overview This term year 6 looked at discussing and debating which book they preferred (Fantastic Mr Fox or the BFG) in the end it was very equal. Year 5 looked at comparing BFG (the movie and book). Both year levels combined their skills to have fun writing Sizzling Starts and sentences using patterns. Congratulations to everyone in the class for their hard work in this area of the term.
Mathematics Term Overview Students in both year levels have been developing their skills and use of co-ordinates and Cartesian Planes. We have been practicing our speed and accuracy with our number facts and we are trying hard to do 100 number facts in 6 minutes, which has helped the whole class to improve with their skills when solving number problems.
HASS Term Overview Year 5 have been closely looking at urban planning and the impact of humans and environmental issues that affect where, why and how people live where they do in the local and state. Year 6 has been exploring more global issues and have focussed on Human Rights, Child Rights, Citizenship and Migration/Emigration. We have enjoyed having interesting and sometimes animated discussions around these areas.
Science Term Overview Year 5 and 6 explored, investigated and experimented with Solids, Liquids and Gases and found out that Matter does Matter.
Yr 5/6 Class News
Special Events All students must be congratulated for their fantastic efforts for our ART GALLERY presentations. At the beginning of the term we worked with a local artist Cathy O’Brien who showed the group how to make felt. For our efforts we produced three pieces of work – one was sold at Auction and the other two are proudly hanging in the Administration/Library building for all visitors to see. The students also produced amazing pieces of art using techniques called Zentangles and Pop Art. For the Year 6 cohort the proud moment for them having input into the production of the wall mural at the end of B Block (Year 5/6) building. We have to sincerely thank Judith, Maryanne and Claire for their expertise and guidance in the preparation and creation of the amazing ongoing piece of art. Today was also a special day for some of our year 5 students who presented their School Captain speeches to students, staff and their parents. Good luck to each one of you – I know you all have the potential to undertake such a special responsibility. (Rebecca, Chinta, Jasmine, Eve, Ruby, John, Jakub and Nellie. Today also sees students sharing lunch (a pizza party) with our local member Andrew Powell, which our class had the pleasure of winning. Special mention should go to work created by Ben and Celine. Congratulation however must go to Jasmine Carroll was announced as the overall winner of the Christmas card entries. Well done and thank you to all students who participated. To all families I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and belief in your children – the work achieved this semester by everyone of the class is to be commended. To the 17 x year 6 students leaving Montville at the end of next week I would like to wish them every success next year as they start their journey through high school. Remember “Aim High”!
