In anticipation of next school year, I would like to meet with a teacher from each shop to discuss the Library. My goal is for your students to feel welcome and your shop to be recognized with materials that enrich their educational experience. I can meet at a time most convenient for your schedule. Please email me: jourdain-jennifer @montytech.net. My plan is also to send surveys to all vocational and academic staff for input too.

If you would like to discuss resources for research, reading, publishing or presenting either print or online, email, call x5125, or visit me near the Nursing Program hallway. I’d love to visit your class!

Animoto.com: Animoto can be used to create stunning, 30-second video presentations which incorporate images, video clips, music and text. It’s free. There’s even an app. Teachers can use it to introduce material. Students can use it for presentations. (Note: The “Education” account requires the use of Gmail and doesn’t work at Monty Tech). At the moment, Animoto works best in the PC lab. Go to http://libguides.montytech.net/web20 for examples, tips, and lesson ideas for using Glogster, Prezi, and Animoto.

Next fall, the Library will focus on using Follett for ebook and audiobook products. This year was a trial year for ebook vendors, Follett and Overdrive. Because of the ongoing expense of using Overdrive and the complicated system for accessing materials, the Library will no longer have an account with Overdrive next year. A small group of Massachusetts libraries will pilot a new platform for e-books and audiobooks next year. Individual libraries may be able to join this platform in December of 2013.

It’s time that the Library reviewed magazine subscriptions for next school year. Below is a list of our current subscriptions:

Next year, we’re adding Northern Woodlands Magazine for Environmental Science. If you have any ideas around subscriptions, databases, or other items, please contact me.
