1.0 Il^ODUCTION;
l A program of geological mapping, lithogeochemical and humus
sampling was conducted on the the Prospect Cove property during the
period May 7-July 22, 1987. The property is in the eastern extension
of the Wawa-Shebandowan sub-province, and lies within the metavolcanic
package hosting the Stenlund pyritic Au zones. Program objectives
H were to further evaluate the gold potential of the property utilizing
the results of earlier magnetometer and VLF surveys (D.R. Carriere
l Noranda Exploration, May 28, 1987). Humus sampling was carried out
over geophysical anomalies. Geological mapping was undertaken on the
" gridded areas not previously mapped, and at detailed 1:1000 scale in
fl the area of a magnetic anomaly offset in the Prospect Cove Shear Zone.
l2.0 CLAIM LOCATION, OWNERSHIP AND ACCESS;
' Thirty contiguous claims are owned by Noranda Exploration.
l The claims are situated within Pic Township, and are bounded in the
west by Lake Superior, and in the east by Highway 627 and the Pic
River Indian Reserve (Figure 1). The property can be accessed by two
wheel drive vehicle 2 km south of the town of Heron Bay on Highway
627, or by boat from Lake Superior. Claim numbers

3.0 PREVIOUS WORK;
l The area was held by Tanglewood Consolidated Resources Inc.
in 1983. A grid was established, and programs of ground
B magnetometer, geochemical and geological surveys were undertaken.
B Some anomalous results were returned including 161 ppb Au in felsic
volcanics, and 209 ppb Au in a quartzite. However, the elevated
l values for gold were not correlated and the claims were allowed to
lapse .
H A portion of the former Tanglewood property was staked by
m Noranda in April 1986. In April 1987 a program ' o'f linecutting, VLF
and magnetometer surveys, and limited geological mapping, prospecting
l and lithogeochemical sampling was initiated. The results of the
geophysical surveys formed the basis for the subsequent Ao horizon
soil survey.
l
l
l
l
4.0 PHYSIOGRAPHY;
The topography is very rugged with intermittent cliffs
forming a maximum relief approximately 125 m above the mean level of
l l l

Lake ^ffperior. Flat lying swampy areas are found between the two
central lakes and in the area of the base line between L 3560 E to L
2960 E. The property is variably covered by second growth poplar,
spruce and cedar swamp.
5.0 REGIONAL AND ECONOMIC GEOLOGY:
l l l l l
l
j
l
The Prospect Cove property is part of the south limb of the
Hemlo Syncline, within the Wawa-Shebandowan greenstone belt of the
Superior Province. The rocks are Archean in age and consist of a
north dipping sequence of calc-alkalic mafic and intermediate to
felsic me tavolcanics and associated me tased imen ts . A suite of
tholeiitic mafic me tavolcanics form an east trending belt south o f t he
property (Muir, 1982). Metamorphic grade is lower to middle
greenschist facies.
The volcanic package is intruded in the east by the Heron Bay
Pluton, and in the north-west by the Port Coldwell Alkalai Complex.
The entire sequence is crosscut by late Precambrian dikes.
Lineaments observed on airphotos suggest a number of
approximately east trending faults and shear zones throughout the
region.
The pyrite bearing intermediate to felsic volcanics of the
area are considered favourable hosts for gold mineralization.
Drilling and trenching on the Stenlund pyritic zones 2 km north of the
claim group returned values of up to 7.25 oz/T Au (Derry et al.,
1985). Drilling the on strike extension of the Stenlund "C" zone
returned values of up to .037 oz/T Au (Esso Resources, 1985).

l 6*2 Geological Mapping;
The property was mapped in two phases. Initially (April 2-
l
22), two areas of the property were targeted for mapping: The felsic
M volcanic package in the north, and the Prospect Cove Shear Zone an
east trending structural break The areas are referred to as Areas One
l and Two respectively, and are delineated on Map l (K. Hearn--Noranda
Exploration, June 17,1987). Mapping was carried out in the early
spring while there was still snow cover. Consequently bedrock
exposure was confined to areas of high relief usually cliff faces.
Thus textures and structures were difficult to observe. The remainder
l of the grid area was mapped after break-up (May 7-July 22). Exposure
throughout the property is generally poor with the exception of cliff
p faces.
M Traverses were made along claim lines and grid lines. During
Phase One mapping an airphoto mosaic was used for control as the
l topography dissallowed accurate chaining, and points were plotted
relative to topography. During Phase Two mapping, points were plotted
with respect to grid locations to facilitate correlation withl
l
lgeophysics and soil geochemistry survey results. Thus topographic
l features are distorted in relation to a planimetric map.
The area of an offset in a prominent magnetic anomaly
(corresponding to the Prospect Cove Shear Zone) was mapped at 1:1000.
H The results are presented on Map 2.
l 6*2.1 Property Geology
As previously reported (K.Hearn--Noranda Exploration, June
17, 1987), two main lithologies predominate on the Prospect Cove
Q property. The northern two thirds of claim group is underlain by a
monotonous sequence of coarse felsic fragmentals. The rocks are
l matrix rich with angular felsic fragments up to 15 cm in length, and
rare porphyry fragments. The matrix is biotitic with minor sericite
g development. Textures are occasionally obscured by shearing, with
stretched fragments lending a gneissic appearance to the rocks.
* Subordinate horizons of massive and porphyritic felsic volcanics as
well as intermediate volcanics are found within the fragmental unit.
Underlying the fragmental is a sequence of massive to porphyritic
mafic volcanics and chlorite schists. Descriptions of mapped
. lithologies are appended.
In the area of detailed mapping, a feldspar porphyry sill has
l
j intruded the contact between the felsic volcanics and the mafic
volcanics. Other intrusives in the area trend generally north-
northwest, and are of varying composition. A number of low silica
M porphyritic syenite dikes, mafic dikes and alkalai intrusives were
observed. In some exposures the alkalai intrusive grades into the
j feldspar porphyry chlorite schist (referred to on Map l as a
l
l l l l
-7-
porplflB^itic mafic volcanic) This would suggest that the schist is
possibly a sheared equivalent of the alkalai intrusive.
6.2.2 Structure t
With the exception of a series of east trending narrow
B discontinuous lenses of massive rocks, the mafic volcanic package is
B generally schistose, striking west-northwest, and dipping to the north
east. Small scale (l meter) isoclinal folding was observed on some
l vertical rock faces.
The felsic volcanics are often strongly lineated, plunging
m t o the west with stretched fragments becoming difficult to
B distinguish.
The "Prospect Cove Shear Zone" corresponds to an
l approximately east trending scarp face that forms the northern mafic
volcanic contact in the west but transgresses to the north of the
m c ontact in the east. The structure coincides with the magnetic anomaly
M detected during the geophysical surveys.
l
l
l
l
l
l
l
6.2.3 Mineralization;
Sulphides were rare in the felsic rocks, and were
generally associated with biotite/chlorite rich lamellae. Mafic rocks
were carbonitized with fine grained disseminated sulphides throughout.
Coarse grained pyrite was associated with biotite rich or well
foliated rocks.
6.3 Lithogeochemistry:
A total of 56 samples were submitted to TSL and Hemlo

6.4 Soil Geochemistry;
Target areas were selected for humus sampling based on the
results of the geophysical surveys. Samples were taken at 25 meter
intervals in the area of the Prospect Cove Shear Zone, at 12.5 meter
intervals in the area of the magnetic offset, and at staggered 50
meter intervals throughout the remainder of the sampling area. A

plotted
,
Future exploration programs should include the following:
GEOPHYSICS: A limited I. P. survey should be conducted in the
the magnetic anomaly offset and associated single
soil anomaly, and on Lines 5720 E and 5600 E where
enrichment of gold in soils is indicated.
GEOLOGY: Further evaluation of the geology in the south east
of the property is required. Due to very limited
area of
station
some
corner
exposure
is is recommended that a program of manual or mechanical
stripping be carried out to expose a section of
-10-l™ stratigraphy north and south of the mafic-felsic contact. Specific
l trenching targets will be provided by the results of the
I.P. survey.
