The following terms maybe used in this document. Please familiarize yourself with them. Terms:

The products: This refers to the digital multifunction and printing devices covered by this document, as noted in the Model Cross Reference table. The term “the products” refers to all of these machines collectively. Host Interface: This refers to the physical interface of the Ethernet board on “the products”. SSL: SSL is a communication technology used for secure connections between 2 hosts. The primary goal of the SSL Protocol is to provide privacy and reliability between two communicating applications. SSL is layered on top of some reliable transport protocol (e.g., TCP). SSL allows the server and client to authenticate each other and to negotiate an encryption algorithm and cryptographic keys before the application protocol transmits or receives its first byte of data. SSH2 (Secure Shell) is intended as a replacement for rlogin, rsh, and rcp. Additionally, ssh provides secure X connections and secure forwarding of arbitrary TCP connections. Ricoh’s implementation of SSH is based on OpenSSH 3.9. Model Cross Reference:

1. Pantone Support

1-1 What is PANTONE Support?

PANTONE is the one of the standard color of special ink industry. PANTONE has more than 3,000 colors, but it is impossible to reproduce all PANTONE color with CMYK printer. In order to reproduce on a printer, PANTONE defined 1137 colors, which is called PANTONE Process Color System, for CMYK printer. The printer that has custom CMYK data for the optimal reproduction of 1089 colors is generally called PANTONE supported printer.

1-3 How to use it?

By importing color palette files to the specified desktop publishing application software, you can generate the optional reproduction of PANTONE colors with this printer. Select the color with the dedicated PANTONE palettes of the printer from the application.

1-4 Target Customer of PANTONE Function

Business creative customers in General office Using graphic application (ex. Adobe software) Printing company logo

NOTE: Professional customer (graphic arts) including propose of color proof is out of our target because color laser printer may not reproduce the PANTONE color accurately.

1-5 Difference PANTONE Support and Ink Simulation with Pallet Color

You can use the function with above PANTONE support when you create new files. However, this function does not affect the existing files. If you want to print the existing files with similar PANTONE color, you can do with printing them with Palette Color of PS driver.. A Color reproducibility of PANTONE support is more precise than that of Pallet Color. NOTE: Although you select the same PANTONE color, Color reproduction of both methods does not

exactly the same.

2. Printing in Non-Windows Environment (Using Connectivity Tools)

In the office, several information resources are handled as the communication method within the section to section, both inside the company and with the client outside. In recent 10years, due to the revolution of the information technology, the solution changing the method from analog to digital has been offered continuously. Now it is believed that digital printing for the documents created in Front Office, which means mainly come from Office suite application such as Microsoft Office has been covered. As the business opportunity is expanded by digital technology and advanced capability of the multifunctional products, many requests from customers have been coming, to handle not only print jobs from Office suite application but also to print the data from the several Back Office systems, so called “Line of Business”. Connecting the MFPs/LPs will provide you with much more business opportunity and huge printing volume, using Connectivity Tools to expand the MFP/LP sales.

2-1 Printing on Unix/Linux Platform

As you can imagine, Microsoft Windows is dominating the client OS market. But if we see server OS market, we can see that Unix and Linux OS are widely used. This is because, we can guess of the reasons such as

Cost advantage in licensing and initial cost Or its stability as Operating system

And its reliability especially in Security purpose in the annual growth trend of UNIX/Linux shipment by IDC estimation, the adoption of these OS has been progressed year by year.

Especially Linux OS shows remarkable growth in the marketplace. Unix system is traditionally used particularly in Engineering of manufacturing, and Education such as University and it might be tendency that many corporate customers have adopted Linux system as server OS. Server OS market share (2000-2009)

2-2 Unix Filter

Availability in Unix /Linux environment was started from 2001. Distribution of connectivity tool so called “UNIX FILTER” was started through the Web site in order to correspond to these market requirements. This tool enables you to print the data coming from Unix and Linux system using the variety of finishing options of the Multifunctional Copier and Laser printer.

Unix Filter can be downloaded for free from the download web site such as below: http://www.ricoh-usa.com/downloads/downloads.asp?tsn=Ricoh-USA&path=http://support.ricoh.com/connectivity/rc/top/unixfilter.htm

2-3 Printing with CUPS (Common UNIX Printing System)

The PPDs of the MFPs/LPs on Linux Foundation started to be posted on February 22nd, 2005. By distributing PPDs on Linux Foundation, potential customers, who print under UNIX/Linux environment, will have interest in Ricoh’s devices. That will contribute to expansion of MFP/LP sales and capture TDV. 2-3-1 What is CUPS?

CUPS stands for "Common UNIX Printing System" which has become popular printing system in Linux environment. CUPS stands for "Common UNIX Printing System" which has become popular printing system in Linux environment. CUPS covers the both Berkeley commands and System V commands, which means customers can use it without any confusion. CUPS provides effective and reliable printing system. CUPS supports; IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) native, which supports authentication, access control and encryption lpd, SMB (=supports printers connected to Windows network) Browsing network connected printers. PPD (PostScript Printer Description) can be implemented in CUPS, which enables customers to use printers’ unique features and device options. As CUPS has GUI, even UNIX/Linux users can use printers just like Windows OS easily. After the first CUPS version released in 1999, it is adopted in many Linux distribution packages since CUPS is free software provided under the terms of the GNU General Public License and GNU Library General Public License. For more details, please refer to http://www.cups.org/

2-3-2 What is LinuxFoundation

Linux Foundation is an official site to support and help with printing under open source free operating systems like GNU/Linux and the BSDs or under commercial UNIX-like systems such as Solaris and OS X. For supporting unique features and device options of each printer, CUPS needs each PPD of printer venders. So, LinuxFoundation.org has been distributing PPDs of several manufactures' printers. Most of Linux distribution package vendors are using to obtain printers’ PPDs to bundle them into their distribution package. Posting PPDs on Linux Foundation should be the right way to promote this machine to UNIX/Linux users. For more details information, please refer to http://www.linuxfoundation.org/

2-5 Novel NDPS Gateway

2-5-4 NDPS Gateway Overview

Following description shows how NDPS gateway works under NetWare environment. The NDPS printer can be discovered by the NDPS gateway Also can be manually added to the NDPS manager where the NDPS gateway resides. If the NDPS client wants to add an NDPS printer to its desktop, it queries NDPS brokers about all available NDPS printers. The NDPS broker informs the NDPS client of the list of NDPS printer agents. After a printer agent is selected, the correct printer driver is downloaded to the NDPS client’s desktop. Later, the NDPS client sends print jobs to the printer agent, which is a virtual printer image created in the NDPS network. The NDPS manger then passes the print jobs to the NDPS gateway that issues the native printing commands to the printer.

Server Based Computing (SBC) has been gotten highly attention from the system management viewpoint lately. Microsoft also offers Terminal Service in Windows Server Products. It is the benefit of SBC that can reduce IT manager’s task, such as installing applications to each client PC. In SBC environment, IT manager just installs them to the server only. Citrix® introduces Citrix Presentation Server (formerly called MetaFrame) as middleware, which enhances SBC features and the Citrix Presentation Server has about 80% of share in SBC market according to Citrix®. Our PCL, PS and RPCS drivers support Windows Terminal Service and Citrix Presentation Server.

However, there is a big limitation for use of printer’s option devices. The option devices, which are equipped with a printer installed on a printer, cannot be utilized in Citrix Presentation Server environment. For example the auto duplex unit, the paper feed units, the finisher, HDD, etc. Device Option Utility for Citrix Presentation Server was developed to resolve these problems.

Device Option Utility for Citrix Presentation Server can be downloaded for free from the web site such as below:

2-7 AS/400 HPT Printing Support (using HP FTYPMDL and WCO)

2-7-5 What is IBM AS/400?

AS/400 is a server product introduced by IBM in 1998. AS/400 has been changed its name to “iSeries”, and got accumulatively more than 750,000 machines on the market since 1998. More than 150 countries have been using it and OS/400, its standard Operating System, has been localized to 51 languages. We could say that it is the most sold server product as a computer system of a single brand. Especially from the beginning of the A/S 400 release, O/S 400 has been used for many kinds of critical mission operations such as personnel affaire system, salary system, accounting system, sales management, logistics, product management, etc. 2-7-6 Existing legacy printing environment

What do you image as for printing on critical mission operations? You may think it difficult, but actually, we believe you have seen it around you. For example, packing slips, salary bill, credit card bill, telephone call bill, product specific, etc. The existing print way is like the following. You order a printing job from a special terminal, the exclusive form of a carbon copy formula is set to a line dot printer, and printing directions are applied just like below. 2-7-7 Connect MFP/LP in AS/400 Environment

How printers can be connected in AS/400 environment? AS/400 sends EBICDIC(Extended Binary Coded Decimal Interchange Code) datastream, which can be receive by line printer or special printers, which supports the emulation. On the other hand, a general office LP is ASCII printer and cannot receive EBICDIC datastream. A kind of translator (way to transform the data stream) is required between AS/400 and ASCII printer.

2-7-8 HPT (Host Print Transform)

Host Print Transform function is supported as standard by AS/400 since V2R3. It is the most basic data stream transformer.

Here are some AS/400 data streams. SCS (SNA Character String) SCS is a data stream for a line dot printer, and can deal with only text data. As font data is not included in the data stream, the data is printed as default font.

AFPDS (Advanced Function Printing Data Stream)

AFPDS is a data stream that does not depend upon types of OS and kinds of printer, and can print out text, font, image and graphic data.

IPDS (Intelligent Printer Data Stream)

IPDS can print out text, font, image and graphic data like AFPDS. It is the most remarkable feature that AS/400 host can allow bi-directional communication with printers, and it enables to feedback the printer status to the host.

HPT supports SCS and AFPDS and it transforms EBICDIC data to ASCII data. In Windows environment, first of all, customer needs to install a printer driver to the PC and configure it. In case of AS/400, the situation is same. You need a kind of printer driver. MFRTYPEMDL* play the role in AS/400. Also, to add a new printing function in AS/400 system, the function should be defined in an original setting file, WSCST (Workstation customization object*).

*MFTYPEMDL: Manufacture Type and Model

Object included in HPT, which is kind of printer driver for certain printer. (The positioning of MFRTYPMDL is similar to Microsoft Mini Driver.) *Workstation Customization Object (WCO): Setting file for printers to use HPT (Host Print Transform) of OS/400 functions. One of the object files included in HPT. Can be updated by the customer to change or add characteristics to a particular printer (MFRTYPMDL).

2-8 Advanced Features for Printing in Host System Environment

Supporting connection and printing the data come from backyard host system has become important year-by-year especially in major account and global account business. For recent years, we have been teaming-up several projects and conducting field survey consulting internal stuff such as system engineers, field pre-sales specialists, global account sales who are deeply involved in major account and global account business deals and who receive the several requirements related to host printing. With these activities, some of the advanced features have been adopted as standard function. 2-9 New PCL Resident Font Adoption: Cyrillic (Russian), Greek, Hebrew & Arabic

Since Model G130 series LP and the later GW printers, "International Fonts" can be printed in the host environment. By the same method as HP, Arabic, Cyrillic, Greek and Hebrew fonts can be designated as default font. Arabic and Hebrew can be designated by operation panel. Cyrillic and Greek can be set by PCL command. Windows and Mac users need not designate these fonts as default. 2-9-1 57BCustomer Benefit

The customers, who use these language characters, do not have to pay additional cost of HDD to install these fonts in the machine separately. And also the global major account customers who has branch office in Russia, Greek and Middle East countries has requirement to print data that contains their local language font.

5-3 Terminology

HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol over Secure Socket Layer, or HTTP over SSL): HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol over Secure Socket Layer, or HTTP over SSL) is a Web

protocol developed by Netscape and built into its browser that encrypts and decrypts user page

requests as well as the pages that are returned by the Web server. HTTPS is really just the use of

Netscape's Secure Socket Layer (SSL) as a sublayer under its regular HTTP application layering.

(HTTPS uses port 443 instead of HTTP port 80 in its interactions with the lower layer, TCP/IP.) SSL

uses a 40-bit key size for the RC4 stream encryption algorithm, which is considered an adequate

degree of encryption for commercial exchange.

SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol):

SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) is a way for a program running in one kind of operating

system (such as Windows 2000) to communicate with a progam in the same or another kind of an

operating system (such as Linux) by using the World Wide Web's Hypertext Transfer Protocol

(HTTP)and its Extensible Markup Language (XML) as the mechanisms for information exchange.

Since Web protocols are installed and available for use by all major operating system platforms,

HTTP and XML provide an already at-hand solution to the problem of how programs running under different operating systems in a network can communicate with each other. SOAP specifies exactly how to encode an HTTP header and an XML file so that a program in one computer can call a program in another computer and pass it information. It also specifies how the called program can return a response.

MIB (Management Information Base):

A management information base (MIB) is a formal description of a set of network objects that can be

managed using the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). The format of the MIB is defined

as part of the SNMP. (All other MIBs are extensions of this basic management information base.) MIB-I refers to the initial MIB definition; MIB-II refers to the current definition. SNMPv2 includes MIB-II and adds some new objects.

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer): The Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a commonly-used protocol for managing the security of a message transmission on the Internet. SSL has recently been succeeded by Transport Layer Security (TLS), which is based on SSL. SSL uses a program layer located between the Internet's Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and Transport Control Protocol (TCP) layers. SSL is included as part of both the Microsoft and Netscape browsers and most Web server products. Developed by Netscape, SSL also gained the support of Microsoft and other Internet client/server developers as well and became the de facto standard until evolving into Transport Layer Security. The "sockets" part of the term refers to the sockets method of passing data back and forth between a client and a server program in a network or between program layers in the same computer. SSL uses the public-and-private key encryption system from RSA, which also includes the use of a digital certificate. Data Encryption Standard (DES): Data Encryption Standard (DES) is a widely-used method of data encryption using a private (secret) key that was judged so difficult to break by the U.S. government that it was restricted for exportation to other countries. There are 72,000,000,000,000,000 (72 quadrillion) or more possible encryption keys that can be used. For each given message, the key is chosen at random from among this enormous number of keys. Like other private key cryptographic methods, both the sender and the receiver must know and use the same private key. SC (Service Call): There are 4 types of SC Conditions Level A ; An SC condition is continually displayed on the copier operation panel. The operator cannot reset it. Level B ; An SC for a limit function. SC condition will be displayed only when the detected function is selected. The operator can reset it by turning the machine off and on. Level D ; SC condition is displayed on the copier. The operator can reset it by turning the machine off and on.

7. Secure Socket Layer (SSL) Support

This function can establish encrypted communication by SSL to protect data from interception, analysis and tampering when

SSL printing (IPP over SSL) ⇒ Refer ‘6.Printing Data Encryption via IPP’ Connecting with Printer via Web Image Monitor Connecting with Printer by Desk Top Binder/Smart Device Monitor for Admin.

7-1 Requirement

Server certification installation (Self-signed /Certificate from Certificate authority)

7-2 Terminology:

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) The Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a commonly used protocol for managing the security of a message transmission on the Internet. Developed by Netscape, SSL also gained the support of Microsoft and other Internet client/server developers as well and became the defect standard until evolving into Transport Layer Security.

9. Data Overwrite Security (DOS) function

This function can overwrite print data that is stored on internal hard drive by writing over the latent image with random sequences of 1’s and 0’s. This enables to access or reconstruct residential data virtually impossible.

NOTES: 1. Excluding counter for charge, information of engine setting 2. Optional DOS Unit is required. 3. This item must be installed by technician.

9-1 Product Positioning

The DOS solution was designed to meet mainly government, military and super major accounts’ requirement for document security while using printers. The DOS solution was designed to help sell more LPs by adding a security solution for classified documents handling applications.

9-2 Overwrite method

Customers can select from three type of overwrite methods provided: NSA Standard: Random data => Random data => Null data (total 3 times) The random data is written over the temporary data twice, and then the null data is written over once. DoD (Department of Defense of USA) Standard Random Data Overwrite

NOTE: DOS Unit adopted NSA and DoD method because these are the most commonly used

methods in PC.)

9-3 Overwrite timing

Overwriting starts automatically when print job is completed. Printer takes priority over the Data Overwrite function. If printer job comes while overwriting the previous job data, the overwriting process will be automatically interrupted until the job is completed.

11. Universal Driver

11-1 Function

A single printer driver can be used for across Ricoh’s MFPs and LPs. When the universal driver is connected to the target machine, it gets the machine information from MIB by bidirectional communication. (network only) a) Applicable Models If the target machine is an applicable model, the driver UI changes to its own UI of the target device. Ricoh’s universal driver can use same functions as the normal driver.

b) Ricoh PCL models except for models 04A onward If the target machine is not an applicable model, the driver UI changes in accordance with the MIB. As the highest common factors are shown as the UI, some functions are not available.

11-2 Target User

The target customer should be SMA and MA. Universal driver is effective in the following environment; 1. Varieties of printing devices are used in the office. 2. A lots of workstations are used in the office. 11-2-2 Background

IT managers in major account have following worries: -need to test new printer drivers for system matching -complex distribution of different printer drivers for each printer -troublesome management of a lot of different printers So the cost and time for introduction and maintenance of devises is getting higher and longer, and a lot of IT managers want to reduce them. To meet these requests, we will release a common driver for RICOH printing devices named “PCL6 Driver for Universal Print”. “PCL6 Driver for Universal Print” provides easy distribution and cost saving for IT managers, easy education for help desk, and easy operation for end users. 11-2-3 Features

-Only installing “PCL6 Driver for Universal Print” enables users to use numerous printing devices, so that users don’t have to install each mono driver anymore. Being different from “PS Driver for Mobile Printing”, all functions that each printing device has are available with this universal driver. -To use all functions “PCL6 Driver for Universal Print” needs a PSD (Printer Spec Description) file that

is unique to each machine. (This is a different point from hp’s “Universal Print Driver”.) IT managers can save their time and cost because all they have to do is a system matching test for not whole driver

but only PSD file.

-This driver supports Bi-directional (two-way) communication, this communication will be started after "Accessories" tab being selected or "Update Now" icon arrowed in the next figure being clicked by users. The driver UI and available options will be changed automatically depending on the connected network printers and MFPs. USB connection doesn’t support two-way communication. Please note that mobile port is not supported; “add port” has to be made manually for the first time to use each printing device.

-Users could use basic functions of GW MFPs and Printers* such as duplex, 2 in 1, staple and so on without each PSD file by Generic UI. Available functions depend on the result of Bi-directional communication. But the behavior of Generic UI is not guaranteed. Generic UI of B222 series

13. New Common “One Click” UI with PCL6 and PS Printer Driver

A lot of new OS is released one after another; customization requests from users are getting large. In such environment, RCL has to develop many drivers (such as Printer/Scanner/LAN-Fax drivers for Japanese domestic version and overseas version) compatible to new OS, our development and QA resource is always running short. For that reason, we need “Selection & Concentration” strategy for early release of drivers. Although RPCS will be discontinued as a PDL (Page Description Language), user friendly one click UI of RPCS printer driver will be inherited to the new UI which is common to PCL6 and PS drivers.

Screen shot of PCL6 driver Screen shot of PS driver *The detailed information of this new common UI will be announced separately with sample printer driver whe the specification is fixed.

In order to print XPS documents, which have been adopted in Windows Vista, XPS driver is available with our models. An XPS document is a new Microsoft document format that can be used to archive content in a standardized format or publish content in an easily viewable form. This format can also be utilized to ensure that no one is able to edit the original work. With Windows Vista, XPS documents can be easily created from virtually any application using the Microsoft XPS Document Writer and viewed using the XPS Viewer which is installed by default.

16. PDF Direct Print

16-1 What is the PDF Direct Print?

The PDF Direct Print is a printer controller’s function to receive the PDF file directly from PC, generate the printable data and print them. As you know the PDF file is small as itself but when it changes to a printable data, it becoming so huge. It depends on a data structure; for example, 325KB of PDF file is getting into 2.18MB when it’s printed through windows printer driver. (Cf. A 330KB of MS word data is getting into 110KB when it’s printed. Its reduced in printing.) So, network load becomes heavier when the printable data of PDF file goes through LAN. (You can see easily which is heavy 325KB or 2.16MB) And PDF Direct Print just requires your PC to transfer a PDF file. Does not require spooling. Ricoh’s PDF Direct Print uses lpr(lp),rsh, rcp, ftp as the file transfer tool.

NOTES: PDF Direct Print supports only “1 byte font”. Therefore, when you print PDF files including 2 byte font such as Chinese and so on, with PDF Direct Print, the “2 byte font” does not be printed normally. You might be able to print such a PDF file with font embedding by Acrobat Distiller in advance. However, this method is not officially supported. 16-2 Data Stream Image (Compare with Driver printing)

1) PC loads less: PC load is lighter than driver printing. Because PDF Direct Print is not generated in Spool file on a PC.

2) Network loads less: Network load is lighter than driver printing. Because PDF Direct Print send a PDF file directly to a printer.

16-3 PDF Compatibility

Applicable PDF Version 1.3 ~ 1.7 Transparency (function of PDF 1.4) may not be printed. Crypt Filter and 16 bit color image (functions of PDF 1.5) are not compatible. PDF 1.6 exclusive functions are not compatible. PDF 1.7 Acro Form is not compatible

16-4 Solution

Case: For General Office Printing A PDF file is commonly used in generic office in last 5 years or so. But some customer might have some stress to print a PDF file because common (PCL, RPCS) printer driver generates huge spooling file from small PDF file. In such case, the customer has to wait their PC operation until the PC finished spooling. Ricoh can provide the comfortable PDF print environment to generic office with the tiny tool. This light tool makes your PC free you can get a 2-click printing From spooling operation. By Function Palette.

17. Bonjour, Windows Active Directory Support, DDNS

17-1 Bonjour Support

What is Bonjour?

Bonjour is formally called “Rendezvous”. The name of technology has been changed from Mac OS X v10.4 “Tiger”.

Bonjour is Apple Computer's version of ZeroConf (Zero Configuration Networking), a set of protocols that enables a

device on an IP network to automatically recognize and connect with other devices on the network. To the end user, this

means that when a new device (such as a printer) connects to the network, every computer on the network is able to

use it instantly without any setup or special configuration. Bonjour uses IETF standards for both Link Local Addressing

(LLA) and Multicast DNS (mDNS). mDNS allows the new device to advertise its existence and the services it offers. LLA

looks around, negotiates with other devices on the subnet, and picks a suitable IP address for the device.

Bonjour provides you with the following three solutions:

Addressing (allocating IP addresses to hosts)

17-2 Windows Active Directory Support (Paper Size Setting Tab - PCL only)

17-2-19 Purpose and Benefits

The purpose of Paper Size Setting function is to support Active Directory function of MS Windows Operation System. It

allows the administrator of the printer server to have the access to the settings of paper size of every available input tray,

which determines the available paper size for the client user, and thus supports Active Directory.

17-2-20 Supported OS:

NT/2000/XP or later

17-3 DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name System) Support

17-3-21 How it works

Records (**) managed by DNS server will be dynamically renewed.

Without DDNS, manual renewal of records required when DNS client’s IP address is changed.

(**) Records are two type of mapping information as follows;

1.”A” record for host name to IP address

2.”PTR” record for IP address to host name.

However, with DDNS function, above change will be automatically notified to DNS server, name resolution work even

after these changes.

18. IPv6

IPv6 is short for "Internet Protocol Version 6". IPv6 is the "next generation" protocol designed by the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) to replace the current version Internet Protocol, IP Version 4 ("IPv4"). IPv6 adds many improvements to IPv4 in areas such as routing and network auto-configuration. Remarks: IPv6 was previously available only for printer capabilities, but is now available for IP-Fax capabilities. IPsec and IP Core Protocols are supported.
