intro: How to Make Delicious, Healthy Homemade Potato Chips With a Microwave!Looking for a healthy, low-fat, easy, and delicious alternative to store-bought fried potato chips? Look no further!

    Image Notes1. Stuff for thanksgiving

    step 1:What You Need1 Potato1 Microwave-safe plate1 Microwave

    Flavoring (Optional)

Image Notes1. Not exactly microwave-save, but it works.

step 2:Cut The PotatoCut the potato into thin slices, as thin or as thick as you'd like.

Using a vegetable or cheese slicer (often found on a side of a cheese grater) works well.

The thinner the slice, the more quickly it will cook and the crispier it will be.

Image Notes1. Other stuff I cut for thanksgiving dinner.

step 3:Lay Potato Slices on PlateArrange the potato slices on the plate with the thinner slices on the outside and the thicker slices on the inside. This will provide for more even cooking.

    Image Notes1. Thin chips

step 4:Add FlavoringAdd any desired flavoring. I have tried salt, salt and vinegar, cayenne pepper, seasoned salt, and garlic powder.

    Image Notes1. Stuff for thanksgiving

step 5:Nuke it.Put the plate in the center of your microwave and set it for five minutes. (cooking time will vary depending on how many chips you are making and the thickness of theslices)

    step 6:

    Watch the Chips

You have to watch the chips as they cook, because cooking time varies greatly. The chips are done when brown spots develop and they become crispy. Cook them aslong or as little as you like to change the degree of crispy-ness.

    Image Notes1. Brown spots--they're done!

Image Notes1. Crispy, with the right amount of seasoning.

Not only is this a good snack but it also helps steam any old food off your micro wave!

dodo91 says: Apr 22, 2009. 8:33 PM REPhow do potatoes spark? i geuse i t's one of earths unsolved mysteries. speaking of wich, i watched animal planet the other day. they had video evidencof "the missing link!" otherwise known as big foot. he murdered a guy trying to shoot a forest ranger. they also found video evidence of a ver large lizarthing. it has infectionous bateria in its mouth. the guy in it was eaten alive. he had a wife/girlfriend. a moment of silence.......................

okay, i know that was WAY off topic. but come on, thats some intresting stuff.

Psyber says: Dec 6, 2007. 9:13 AM REPTo all the folks out there that mistakenly believe the potato is unhealthy:potato nutrition label

Thats almost twice the potassium as a banana, nearly half your daily intake of Vitamin C, a fair source of fiber, B vitamins and magnesium. At only a tenth your recommended daily intake of carbs and a twentieth your intake of calories it's comparable to a mid sized whole wheat pita pocket without all the fat ansodium. The potato gets a bad rep from being overly processed and garnished. A baked potato with a little salt is quite healthy by itself, slather on the buttesour cream, bacon bits and cheese and it becomes a heart attack waiting to happen. Thats not the potatos fault.

dodo91 says: Apr 22, 2009. 8:23 PM REPyeah. it's not the potatoe that's unhealthy, but all that grease. potatoe chips have LOTS of grease. lays chips have so much, i get a headache if i eat tomuch. pringles are my FAVORITE chip brand. they have no grease.

ReCreate says: Feb 19, 2009. 1:56 PM REPslather on the butter, sour cream, bacon bits and cheese and it becomes a heart attack waiting to happen.yeah, its not the potatoes fault,it just got a reputation for being un-healthyand i think, even rotten ones can be planted and can grow a new plant, right?

Klaus Baude 123 says: Mar 29, 2009. 10:16 PM REPYeah, but arent potates really, really starchy? That can't be good.

ReCreate says: Mar 30, 2009. 5:50 PM REPProbably not

SoDDiggerCpl says: Apr 20, 2009. 10:25 PM REPOMFG these chips are sooo good. Used to do this in a pan on the stove with potato peels when mom made mashed potatoes.

    _Ko0LaiD_says: Mar 29, 2009. 10:58 PM REPkchissssss, lawrys bad, Johnny's Good.

FirstAttempt says: Mar 8, 2009. 11:33 AM REPI made these but they stuck to the plate =(, they were still really ood thou h, lol

degroof says: Nov 29, 2007. 6:36 PM REPI didn't have any potatoes handy so I tried mixing mashed potato flakes with water, olive oil, salt and vinegar. Pressed it into a sheet and microwaved that.Came out pretty good.

calicos says: Mar 5, 2009. 5:51 PM REPits sounds like you made Pringles - did they taste like that? My kids would love that!

thatkidwithayoyo says: Mar 5, 2009. 6:22 PM REPNot quite. they tasted like very crispy, thick-cut chips. Much more potato-y than pringles.

calicos says: Mar 5, 2009. 6:14 PM REPThere's a spice company called Penzy's that sells powdered (real) cheese. Its really good. I just tried sprinkling a little on some on my "chips" - it wasfantastic! I used the Parmesan and also some Blue Cheese.

Oh, before I added the powdered cheese and salt I spritzed them with olive oil using a spritzer. This way you don't have to worry about using Pam or addintoo much oil.

Hodge-Podge says: Nov 30, 2007. 12:04 PM REPi found that using a bacon rack sprayed with Mazola Pure Olive Oil spray, slicing the potato with a cheese grater (the wide flat slicer, not the little holes) thienough to see through, seasoning the chips, then spraying them with the above spray, and cooking for 4-5 mins worked really good. (My mom has a mastein Home-Ec, she helped quite abit)

Crash2108 says: Dec 3, 2007. 12:49 AM REPMazola makes olive oil now? I thought they make browsers?

    I couldn't resist.

    ReCreate says: Feb 19, 2009. 2:02 PM REPMozilla,not mazola

jarikcbol says: Dec 8, 2007. 11:30 AM REPok i know its a double post, but i had to add this.i folded a paper plate acordion style (so it looked like /\/\/\/\/\/\ ) then placed that on another plate, and put the chips on it. also made shure that no chipstouched each other. they come off the ridges easy as pie, and cooked about 2 minutes faster also.

ReCreate says: Feb 19, 2009. 1:52 PM REPits ok,this place is not a fourm you can do that, just don't be mean thats the only (obvious)ruleits not considered bumping

    Ezza says: Nov 22, 2007. 8:35 PM REPDamn I wish I had a microwave.

    cry_wolf says: Dec 1, 2007. 7:35 PM REPI hope you're kiddin ...

Tobita says: Nov 15, 2008. 9:07 PM REPi don't have a microwave. i do have a toaster oven though, that's because i have an unnatural fear of microwaves

At Liberty says: Feb 19, 2009. 6:41 AM REPYour fear is not "unnatural"

Doctors instruct pregnant women (now, in 2009) to not go anywhere near a running microwave.

If a microwave poses enough of a threat to a baby inutero that physicians (even completely western ones) give such instruction, who's to say itwon't screw up organs?

ReCreate says: Jan 12, 2009. 5:21 PM REPwhats there to fearexcept for the fact that there is BIG FAT capacitor inside that could explode at any momentand that there is a high voltage transformer that could literally disintegrate youand that if the door i t not perfectly closed it could cause instantaneous death. to you and your pets!XD XD XD

Tobita says: Jan 12, 2009. 7:32 PM REPLast time i used a microwave was 2 months ago at a friend's house, i turned on the microwave and RAN and hid on the couch, face down aper the duck and cover videos of the 50's. She still teases me about it...

ince says: Apr 8, 2009. 7:50 PM REPGoogle for "Faraday Cage", realize a microwave is one, never be scared of them again. The stuff about pre nant women and microwaves is ridiculous and I hope nobody in their ri ht mind starts believin it.

Tobita says: Apr 8, 2009. 10:45 PM REPI know what a Faraday cage is, i was debating con for their use in the school bathrooms (no cellphones, like that will work, mostpeople text/talk in the hallway anyway) for English class. My fear is irrational, i know it's safe, but it's a bugging feeling.

ReCreate says: Jan 12, 2009. 7:26 PM REPBesides ,a toaster oven is by far more dangerous than a microwave

Tobita says: Jan 12, 2009. 8:06 PM REPI don't care! The toaster oven doesn't make the brick shitingly scary DSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH soundthe nuke box does!

ReCreate says: Feb 19, 2009. 1:38 PM REPok then, put a microwave fan in the back of that, turn it on,and realize that its ok

Ezza says: Dec 2, 2007. 10:50 PM REPNo, I honestly don't have a microwave in my house. I don't have Chuck Taylors, a Myspace page or a mobile (cell) phone either, and I'm finewithout them. I rarely find myself in the situation where I'm saying "dang, I wish I had a microwave right now". These potato chips are oneexception.

Marshmallow.d.luffy says: Dec 3, 2007. 1:20 PM REPYeah well i could see the cell phone or the myspace because i don't have them either, but the Chuck Taylors i can barely let slid because

they are awesome. But i still cant believe the microwave thing i love my microwave.

cry_wolf says: Dec 6, 2007. 4:07 AM REPYeah Chuck Taylors fall apart for me, and myspace is for rapists..but a microwave? Those can save your life! XD

Marshmallow.d.luffy says: Dec 6, 2007. 12:11 PM REPwe a robber breaks in you can hit him with it or put his head in it XD
