Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat are the living quarters like and how are they assigned? Each camp unit is set in its own
unique area offering different
housing styles, including
platforms tents and wooden
cabin units. In a tent unit, four
girls share a large heavy-duty
canvas tent that has a raised
wooden floor with a cot and
mattress for each girl. In a cabin
unit, eight girls share a cabin
that has four bunk beds with
mattresses. In tent units,
counselors live in a separate
counselor's tent in the unit. In
cabin units, counselors sleep in
one of the cabins in the unit.
Girls are assigned to a tent or
cabin unit depending on the
session that they sign up for. All
campers that sign up for the
same session will be living in the
same unit at camp. Girls of
different grade levels in
different sessions do not sleep in
the same unit. If two campers of
different grade levels want to
spend time together at camp,
they will have many chances
throughout the day to spend
time together. We want to
encourage girls to build the
confidence to make new friends
while at camp.
What about food at camp?Three family-style meals a
day are served in the Dining
Hall. At least one meal during
each week-long session is
cooked over a campfire.
Please notify the council of
any dietary restrictions
before your camper arrives at
camp. Please do not send food
to camp to be kept in the
units. Food attracts mice into
tents and cabins. If you send
special food to meet your
daughter's dietary
restrictions, it will be kept in
the kitchen.
What about safety? In Girl Scouting, safety is always first,
especially at camp. Kentucky's
Wilderness Road Council has a well-
supervised camp program and staff.
The first thing girls learn before doing
any activity is the safety procedures
involved. Staff are certified in First
Aid and CPR and trained in emergency
procedures. The camp director
monitors weather alerts, and all unit
leaders carry portable walkie-talkies,
which allow constant contact for
emergencies. In severe inclement
weather, all campers and staff go to a
designated storm shelter.
Who are the camp counselors? Our camp staff members are caring,
qualified adults and dedicated
young women who are carefully
selected and trained to provide
interesting programs in a safe and
supportive environment. Many of
our counselors were once Girl Scout
campers themselves!
What about health care?A physical exam is required to
attend camp. It may be
performed by a licensed
physician, a qualified nurse
practitioner, a physician's
assistant or registered nurse
under a physician's orders within
the preceding 24 months of the
session your camper is attending.
Any camper who has a known
complication, medical problem,
or who has had a serous illness,
injury or an operation since her
last physical examination, must
submit a written statement from
her physician. You may also use
a copy of a 2019 health
examination from school or
sports activities. Please make a
copy of the physical examination
form for your own records before
sending the original to the
council. This will save time and
expense if the form should
become lost in the mail or
misplaced. All medical
information is kept confidential.
How do you handle prescription medications?Prescription medications must be
in the original container with the
camper's name and dosage. These
medications are kept in the
infirmary and administered at the
appropriate time by the camp
health manger. Campers cannot
keep medications in their units or
self-medicate.
What if my daughter is a Non-Girl Scout or is from another council?Non-Girl Scouts are welcome to
enjoy the fun and adventure of Girl
Scout Camp. Girls who are not
registered Girl Scouts pay a fee of
$25 in addition to the published
camp rate. Girl Scouts from other
councils are also welcome at camp.
There is no extra fee for Girl Scouts
from other councils.

your camper to buy souvenirs
of camp and some basic
supplies that campers may
need. During camp check-in,
the business manager will bank
any money that your daughter
brings to camp. We do not
recommend that your camper
keep money in her unit.
What if my camper leaves or loses something at camp?A lost and found box is kept for
each session at camp. These
items are transferred
periodically throughout the
summer to the Lexington Service
Center and are kept until August
12th, 2019. Please call the Council
office to make arrangements to
pick up any lost and found items.
Items not claimed by August 12th
are donated to the Salvation
Army. It is helpful if you label
your camper's clothes and that
you check that your daughter has
all her belongings when you pick
her up from camp. The Council
cannot be held responsible for
items lost or left at camp.
Is financial assistance available? If so, who is eligible?Camperships are available to
those who participated in the
cookie or fall product sale and
need financial assistance. We
know camp is an important
experience your daughter will
enjoy and remember for years to
come. However, we realize that
cost can be a concern. Financial

up from any Girl Scout office. A
limited amount of money is
budgeted each year for financial
assistance. The financial
